Equipment for SRT

I bought 250 feet of camo paracord to leave on public land 50 feet at a time, figuring it would be hard for others to notice and would remain there.
I had trouble finding it for about two weeks so it was very effective. :D

I have bright orange with reflecting specks for private and semi private land sets and black for public land. My advice would be to tie some trail marker tape or similar on nearby trees to guide you in. Maybe get in the habit of marking the first tree north or west of your set.

for the climbing gear, hand ascender, foot ascender etc., is there any company you prefer over another? local store seemed quite a bit higher priced than i have seen on line

Probably stay away from GM climbing. It’s a Chinese company that supposedly listed some gear as certified that was never tested.
Stick with names like Petzl, Black Diamond, Mammut, Sterling, Climbing Technologies, Metolius, Kong etc.
I made my own foot loop from DanO daisy chain webbing. I just connect it to the bottom of my hand ascender. The daisy loops make it super adjustable.

i should have been more specific. i'll definitely stick to the name brand devices. i meant retail places. looking to buy equipment for next season

I've bought a lot of equipment from REI, most mail order, but some at their store.

I would also suggest being careful bargain shopping for climbing equipment, there is counterfeit equipment out there. Make sure you are buying from a reputable dealer (Amazon is known for being a home to counterfeits of all kinds). There are deals to be had, but be careful Your life literally depends on this equipment working as expected and meeting the advertised specifications.

I’ve been using a throw line cube.
How are you using the reel when you throw the bag? Might be less bulky than my folding arborist cube.
I use my Popeel pocket fisherman...Ive become quite accurate with a 2oz lead sinker at casting ove branches...fits in my pack too!

Have any of you good folks ever used the Beal Birdie? If seems similar to the GriGri but I can’t tell how it compares to the Safeguard.
Nope! But I just ordered one now that the Safeguard is discontinued. Ill do a review once it gets here. From my research, it is more like the safeguard than the lifeguard. They say when belaying a climber, if you loose the none loaded end of the rope, it locks up like the safeguard.

Who told you the Madrock Safeguard is discontinued? You can still order them on the madrock site.

Yeah, I'm not thinking so. Maybe not for sale from a particular retailer any longer? The Madrock site shows both the Lifeguard and Safeguard available.

If it is ever discontinued I’d want to find out why In case it’s been shown to be unsafe, but until then I like the device and how it works.

IF i use a throw line and its is 30 feet up over a limb, then would i need at least 60 feet of climbing rope? Once you tie it to throw line bring it back down over limb then feed end through the loop on end of your climbing rope ,then girth hitch it in . You would need 60 feet?

You need 60 feet of THROWLINE but only 30 feet of rope. Imagine you tie the tail end of the rope to your throwline and pull it up so you have the other end of the rope in front of you. Tie your figure eight loop in your rope and pass your throwline spool through this loop. Pull your throwline and your rope will go up and the tail end will come down with the rope girth hitched to your tree limb.

Unless you’re zero feet tall you wouldn’t need 60’ of either. Tree diameter complicates this but you get the point.
