First impressions of the lwcg .5

Whats up fellas?! I know I haven’t posted since the season, but it’s been a rough year to say the least.

I finally got in deer mode a few weeks ago, and started thinking about trying something new this season. I decided to try out the .5 in combo with the Phantom. My thought process was; the ability to sit down and stand up when I wanted, would be worth the money after those long walks, and on the long sits.

I’ll preface this with saying that I’m 6’2”, 220lbs, so not a small guy.

I went with the .5, and the 20” single sticks for a few reasons. I hunt public half the time, with several bonus buck hunts on places pretty far from home. I want the smallest profile possible on my walk. Nothing is more irritating than clanging and bangin on the way in. That being said, I was pretty worried about the size, never having seen the thing in person.

First impressions out of the box were, “holy crap, this thing is small!” But when I put the sticks on the stand, and cinched them down, I loved the way it all went together.

Ease up the tree was crazy. The last hang on stand I had was the alpha II, and it was a pain getting in the tree. That was the sole reason I jumped to the saddle to begin with. So being able to throw this thing on in 10 seconds was awesome.

I’m in my second practice sit right this second, and I’ve been here for about an hour. It is super nice being able to sit down on a seat for the first time in a while. Nice change of pace to say the least. Being able to stand up and lean against the tree is also very nice (I’m used to being on the original predator). Hanging in the saddle is also different with the way I have room to move around. I’ve seen the side pressure debate and honestly, I cannot see a scenario where I would have to put side pressure on it. I can literally lean over with my feet planted, or just stand straight up and lean over the same way. Now that is probably going to be an issue when it comes to stand placement when I’m actually trying to kill deer and get a good shot.

The one thing i can already tell, is that I like sitting down in it, but the platform is really short. To be 100% comfortable sitting down, i would need another 12” on the platform. But I don’t think I’m willing to give up the small profile of this thing.

Being as I gave a kidney for this thing, I’m gonna give it an entire season, and then see how I feel about it. I usually get around 65-75 sits a year, most here around the house, a quota hunt or two, and a couple bonus buck hunts. So I’ll get plenty of time in it to really see how I feel!!

Less than 4 weeks and we’re hunting here in GA. Can’t freaking wait!

Just got mine is like last week. I’m sorta/kinda obsessed! I ordered the 17” singles to go with it. Hopefully they come soon.
I fought buying a LWCG.5. I actually had one on order last year and cancelled it. 500$ for a treestand just messed with my brain. After thinking about it for a year. I cannot think of a reason why not to use it. You get the benefit of the saddle. Weak side shot is no longer a thing. It weights only two pounds more than your average platform. I dropped needing to carry a bulky pack. I could be wrong but I don’t see myself changing this setup for a while.

Absolutely. Love the fact that I can leave the pack in the truck!

Absolutely love my .5 with saddle combo. My only complaint is that I didn’t get one sooner. Super anxious to get out in the woods with it. Season is quickly approaching best of luck with the new set up!!

I modified my seat to work like an xop. I cant believe they didnt do that too considering cody is involved with both.

I really like my mission platform for the room and wouldn't be surprised if I joined the hybrid ranks with a .5 in the near future as well

I'd see if I couldn't rig a few short sm dia bunggie cords to secure the seat in place.

Ditto what Bowtie747 said, I ran the .5 all last season and loved it. For the first time in a couple years I had zero interest in changing my setup, the .5 and 3 sticks with cable aiders and I'm good to go. One thing I may try is a 3 step aider on my first stick and a cable aider on the second and just using 2 sticks, that should get me 13-14' which is usually plenty.

I’m ready to go! So far, I have no complaints or changes. I really like this setup!!

This is going to be my setup for Sept 9th. I'm going back to 3 mini hawks with aiders this year for first hunt. I 1stick all of last year but I want to see if the packing support offer by a frame make carrying 2 extra sticks a non issue. Have not decided how I want to carry the sticks, honestly don't even know if the how matter that much. But from what l read its better if the weight is distributed evenly rather then focus at one area.

OG Assault? With a LWCG post/seat?

Well my setup is now .5 stand, 4 17” minis with cable aiders, and then the Wolf pack. Haven’t hunted with it but I just played with it on a tree. Cannot say how pumped I am to use it this year. How all this stuff works together is awesome!

Anyone happen to know if they use grade 8 bolts in the single step sticks? Ik they now machine them in but mine are still bolted on.

I’m wanting to use a versa aider and curious if anyone has any hesitations on that?

No better system out there in my opinion.

Thanks for you answer in the other thread! That setup is darn pretty! Does the backwoods Mobil gear fit a water bottle or something similar?
