Fletching Arrows

That is true also.

I use an old black plastic fletcher I got from my dad. This is my first season shooting feathers. I am hoping they are more forgiving than the blazers out of my recurve. Loc-tite gel super glue seems to work well on the carbon shafts.

It works on most shafts. I couldn't get the loctite gel to work on GT carbon arrows for whatever reason. Must be something they coat them with? Switched to g5 blue glu and now goat tuff and haven't had any issues.

All of the advice is solid. I use to do this but about 15 years ago went to FOBs and have not fletched an arrow since. I just bare shaft tune and then stick on the FOBs. They also last a long time but suck if you shoot 3d league. I still have the original dozen I bought and they work great. Plus they fall off when the arrow passes through the target so you know where to start the blood trail.

Has anyone made these work on a trad bow?

They were great if someone was giving them to me, but I just found them expensive to shoot. I didn’t have a ton of problems bending, but so much ke down range tended to mushrooms heads around that insert.........
I've never shot FMJ's...were they mushrooming with the BAR ring? Have you tried a footer over them?

Mine mushroomed on hard impacts with the bar adapter. I do admit that I used hot melt instead of epoxy. It was rare.

Lots of good advice and recommendations. John Dudley/Nock On is such a great resource.

Something you may already know but if your going to play with offset on your vanes, try marking a spot on the top of an unfletched arrow and shoot it at about 10 feet into your target. Look where the dot ended up to determine the rotation of your arrow from string twist then pair that with the consistent offset for optimum results/tight rotation.

Second suggestion, make sure to clean the heck out of you glue bottle nozzle and keep a pin or piece of thin wire with your kit. Seems no matter how diligent I think I am with trying to keep that nozzle clean for next time the glue never flows when I take off the cap.

I thought the FMJs were the coolest but my bow didnt. I tuned, paper tuned, french tuned you name it and could never find the consistency the FMJs deserve and yes, I had the appropriate spine. Seems my bow prefers carbon. X5s shoot fine up to about 35y. For my bow Carbon Express maxima reds are the shiz but get expensive when you robin hood em.

Just play around with it and have fun with it. Only mistake I made one time was I didn’t lay the arrows flat after glueing in my inserts and they dried halfway down the shaft lol

I'm currently testing out vanes to see what flies best. Nock On sells a nice vane sample kit. I got 3 arrows with 3 fletch Max Stealth, 3 fletch Pro Max and a 4 fletch of PM2.0. I shot the Max Hunters last year for deer season but wasn't impressed with how they flew on my GT Pierce shafts. I'll see what groups best at 60 yards.

Sounds fun, keep us posted. Im digging the NAP Quickspins. Everything shoots about the same for me up to 40 then the Quickspins seem to stay tighter +40y. Have you tried four fletch?

Make sure that each vane is set the same distance away from the nock use the same mark on the clamp for all vanes and make sure you nock is seated. Watch so you don't get glue on the clamp or your vanes will stick to it. Wipe you arrows down I just use water let them dry. I use super glue you don't need alot of glue a few drops then I spread it with the nosal of the glue. I put a dab of glue at the front of the vane when I'm done. I've been fetching arrows a longtime it's fun . I use both blazer vanes and feathers . Have fun and take you time.

Just fletched up something I once thought was a sick joke. But hearing a lot more on it lately...6 fletch! Will see how she flies tomorrow. Only one way to find out.

For glueing I use the Lock-Tite Max control tip. And a little goes a long way.
