Hawk 20" 4 pack are in at Mack's prairie wings

Anyone have any other QC issues on the sticks? I got a set from Mack’s, one stick had the cups/pegs on backwards from the rest. Also sounds like something rattling around inside the main beam?!

probably slag in the stick. I had a bunch of balls of slag fall out of the box when I opened it.

I had a little noise inside one stick but I think it’s just a little shavings of the metal when they drilled the holes.

As for the cups being backwards. You may have installed the versa button and the stand-offs on backwards. After I assembled them I had one stick with the cups/peg on what I thought was backwards. Then I realized I installed the versa button and standoffs on the wrong side. (That will make the cups/peg look like their on the wrong side.

Mine are insanely tight also! I’m guessing the more you take them apart the easier it gets? I can hardly get 1 or 2 of them apart.

I tried spraying a little silicone lubricant into the cups and wiping around in there and on the buttons and it did seem to help the stick separate a little easier. They’re still really tight but not as bad as before. Mostly avoiding cutting the hands now it seems.

Remove the suction cups and use nite ize gear tie. Problem solved and lighter weight.

Yeah. It’s one of those things that you really want it to work ya know. I may do something like that anyway though. They really are hard to get apart either way.

That my my thought right away. But based on the direction of the bolts for the pre-installed steps this one was wack!

Also....don’t overtighten the buttons!!

I posted about this earlier...there is slag alllll up in there. Pain in the ass to get out i had to drill holes big enough for them to shake out. They sounded like aluminum matacas. All m y steps are angled differently too. POS sticks. They look cool tho

Backstrap Assassin and others who got the 20” helium sticks and are having issues pulling the sticks apart from the suction cup connectors... here’s something that might help this issue. I noticed that the suction cup buttons have sharp edges.

The suction cups on my sticks were actually tearing because of the sharp edge on the buttons. (I’ve only had these sticks 1 day so far and only tried pulling the sticks apart a handful of times to try and wear it in a little and already they were doing this.)

I decided try and modify a bit by sanding down the sharp edges of the suction cup buttons.

Then any torn edges on the suction cups (and there were several), I just pulled off the rest of the way and then cleaned up the edge of it a little bit with a razor blade.

This mod helped immensely! They are now pretty easy to pull apart, only requiring mild-moderate effort. I find they are easiest to pull apart from the bottoms of the sticks first. The sticks still hold together very well after doing this, although noticeably more loose than before (fine by me!) They feel a lot like how the larger original helium sticks felt when pulling apart, from what I remember. I would probably recommend strapping the pack of sticks together with a strap or big gear tie or something before going hiking with them, just to keep them secure. I do this anyway just because.

So I thought this would be a quick simple fix to the issue. Although this may void the warranty FYI. These are cheap enough I don’t really mind that. Still like these sticks a lot but I am a bit disappointed that it took having to do this to get the sticks to act right. Hopefully helps someone else out there.

Awesome idea! thanks!

Got mine today. Haven’t built the standoffs or anything yet but I did have the same issue with needing a crowbar to separate out of the suction cups. I have leftover parts from my full size helium’s and I noticed the old suction cups were much more supple whereas the minis have almost hard plastic suction cups.

I will try the sanding mod mentioned above. Good idea. These are so hard to separate its just not practical.

I’ll also advise on any quality issues. So far I already have one broken suction cup button tab but fortunately had an old button from the full size sticks I bought last year.

the second pic shows a good button sticking out while the other two pics show the button is broke and sits flush to the stick.

PS - even if I didn’t have a spare part I would still recommend and love these sticks. I’m sure I could have haggled for a replacement button. And if not if would just have to always be on the bottom of the stack haha.
I’m sure beast sticks And other high end - high priced sticks are great and all but $109 for 4 very light sticks with double steps, are you kidding me?! Amazing deal.

Now with Hawks blatant lack of quality will I be in a rush to get their new saddle.... um no, no thanks.

Thanks for pointing out the differences between the old hawk sticks and the new shorts. I could have sworn these new cups were different Than the old ones. And the buttons! Yeah I agree with you, you can’t beat $109 for 4 short sticks with double steps, and are angled and fold up for crazy small pack ability, even with the quality issues. I love these for that reason. Besides we all like to do just a little tinkering and moding anyway right?

West I have rounded my pegs but still It is annoyingly difficult to get them apart.

Did you shave or sand the inside of the suction cups too? Or did you just clean up the tears on the suction cups?

How much did you sand down your pegs? Mine look about as rounded as yours.

Gotcha. If your pegs look like mine in the pic, then yours are likely the same as mine. On the cups I only cleaned up the tears in the inner edge of the cups. Where they were torn I just pulled/peeled around the rest of the way until the little flap pulled off. Then anything that was left I just cut with a box cutter blade. I was afraid to cut into them much more than that. I didn’t cut into any other cups that didn’t tear first. If they do eventually tear then I will peel them off too.

The sticks are way easier than they were to pull apart but I wouldn’t say they don’t still require some effort. Maybe it’s the way you’re pulling them apart?

If you hold the stack of sticks upright directly in front of you, hold in the middle of the sticks and pull straight out, I think it will still be somewhat difficult to pull apart. What I’m doing is holding the sticks directly in front of me, grabbing towards the bottom of the sticks and pulling them apart starting at the bottom first. This seems to be way easier for me, but still takes some effort. Nothing like it was before though.

Awkward picture- was hard to prop the phone up. Hopefully gives you an idea though.

I’m pulling the same way but I need an Infinity Gauntlet and at least 3 stones before I possess the strength to separate them.

Hmm. Do you have all the stones for the gauntlet? Jk. I’m not sure then. You could take some pics of what it looks like and I can try and help further.

How do you carry them in? Strapped to a pack?
