Help me fix the knee to tree pain.

What about two (collapsible) spreader tubes connected to the bridge loops, that keep the saddle away from the tree?
Some small, light CFK could be sufficient, some cloth around may kill noise.
And they also will reduce hip pinch, because the saddle gets spread.
Just a crazy idea.

I was thinking yesterday about tether angle and the relationship it puts your body to the tree. It causes us to be drawn into the tree thus compounding the knee issue. This started me thinking as to why don't we address the issue at the top where the rope / tether angles away from the tree perhaps adding some kind of moveable spacer. This would put the hunter's tether in a more vertical position causing the force to be directed downward instead of drawing you into the tree. I tried the theory by moving my adjustable standoff up to the top and I think the concept might have some merit. Let's hear some ideas!

There's been soooo many threads on this! I like Red's ifea but just for info here's what I use. Makes a flat surface. Theres a thin stiff board in there too now! Very comfy and and rotate around the tree with gentle coaxing if you don't strap it down too hard!20220916_171417.jpg20220916_171422.jpg20220916_171404.jpg

It is a re-purposed thermaseat back and bottom. The board is composite carbon, but you could slip in a thin plexiglass sheet instead?

Are you thinking something that goes between your tether and the tree where the girth hitch is? Or something below that connection that just gets it out from the tree?

Behold my awesome paint skills...

One option is to set up in trees with a back lean. An issue with a standoff is that it would not provide a consistent outcome. Depending which way and how a tree leans you’d quickly end up in Goldilocks territory.

The first illustration depicts what I am thinking.
I'd think whatever you use, it would need to be rounded to not cause excessive wear in the rope. It would also probably need to be decently long to semi wrap around the tree to keep your rope from popping off the standoff if you were maneuvering around the tree at all.

First pic showing it semi wrapping around the trunk, the second showing the tether in multiple positions. If the standoff was too short, as you move around the tree it could pop off of the standoff and cause a noise and a "oh s**t!" moment up in the tree.

I am thinking something along the lines of radiator hose with a cam buckle strap running through it.

I went out today in the rain and tried a W.E. step with a piece of flexible vinyl electrical conduit added to the rung. Wrapped it with Duct tape and camo Vet tape. Seems to move tether to a position parallel with the tree( vertical) and reduces inward pressure. I will test more on a climb after rain subsidies.

I keep one of these attached around my pack (sits on the outside of my platform) with a bungee cord. After my climb I remove it first, bungee it around the tree above where I am placing my platform, then work on strapping the platform to the tree. Has worked well so far and I already had the bungees and a few of these seats laying around like a lot of us do. It's close to 2" thick so it provides a lot of comfort, is quiet, and didn't require me to purchase anything new.

This will be my 4th year saddle hunting. Im a sitter and my only complaint is knees into the tree. I have the Tethered look alike knee pads. Ive also tried the Latitude pads. Still not getting the comfort Im looking for. Im thinking about a trying a strap around the tree pad. What are you guys using thats actually worked for you. Be it knee pads to try or a pad to strap to the tree.

I wear fabric gel knee pads directly on my knees and then over top of my pants I wear a hard shelled gel knee pad. When I kneel against the tree I am in a completely seated position.
