How many people actually use a bino chest rig?

I wear mine scouting and hunting. I use the Alaska guide creations. It hold my binos, range finder, head light, license, lighter and maybe a snack. I also carry a 9mm on it too. It’s a great accessory for me especially day hunting.

Rick young outdoors. You can thank me later.

Dang it. You just cost me $25.
This was exactly what I had been looking for.
I like carrying my Binos on my chest, but didn’t like how bulky my harness was.

its a solid buy. I like how you can switch up configurations as shown in his video.

I got the neoprene cover (picture soft beer koozie material) for a gift a few years back. It's pretty nice also, but can be a bit of a pain to manage if you are constantly wanting to cover and uncover. I either let my hang half open, or travel with them covered and remove at first glassing. They can be stashed in a front pocket easily.

I carried binos once while gun hunting a few years ago. Completely worthless unless you're bored to tears.

I used to always where the straps. One day while crawling through some undergrowth a piece of a branch got lodged in the eye piece. As I cleared the undergrowth on the edge of a field and caught movement. I instinctively reached for my binoculars and at the very last second saw the stick. It would have been a jagged stick to the eye a half second later. I bought an Alaskan Guide Creations chest rig the next week and have used it ever since. That close call with the stick really shook me up. I almost lost the vision in my left eye in a split second.

That is a very good point. I had not thought about that

I use the vortex straps & really like them, I could see where one of the pouches would be nice to protect the binos better but haven't tried one yet. They do seem bulky but it would also be nice to keep the rangefinder right there handy as well. Feel naked if I go hunting without binos!

I never go anywhere without my Binos, including scouting. Its amazing how often I reach for them without even thinking to get a closer look at something.

That being said, I just use Bino straps, always have. I see no benefit to putting your binos in whats essentially a mini chest rig. Just more stuff to drag out there, makes your binos bulkier, and just more fiddle factor than just having them sitting there ready to go. I use the Sitka one and its been great.

I am an east coast hunter, so I am not in the Midwest or mountains unless I’m on a annual trip. I’m debating getting a bino harness to wear while hanging. I have not found myself carrying binos usually but if there is a slim case that can do it and carry some accessories I’m open to try it.

Thank you for your suggestions or examples of when you have needed them on the east coast in the woods.

I do not enter the woods without my $19 cabelas harness. It’s just the standard harness that holds them on my chest. I LOVE it. It feels comfortable and I use them all the time when hunting AND scouting.

- I tape my milkweed to my binos, always there and easy to access

- hunting utility is obvious

- scouting - I save SO MUCH time bc I can check if something is a rub off in the distance, see trails, bedding etc. you will use them scouting more than you can imagine

bro you might have saved my ENTIRE vision. I am legally blind in one eye. All I have is my left and I have never once given a second thought to slapping my binos at my face a bunch of times when I hunt and scout.

thank your for this post.

I started out with my binos on a Red Head chest strap. I did not like them bouncing on me while walking around and sagging as the day wore on. I switched over to a $50 Alps chest rig a couple of years ago. I really liked it. I upgraded to the Sitka Mountain harness last year and love it.

I keep my binos, reading glasses, phone, wind checker, rangefinder, pull up rope, figure 8, extra carabiner, and my pull up rope in it. I don't leave the truck without my harness these days.

If I'm stand hunting, I don't carry anything. If I'm on foot, I carry a Vortex monocular. I hunt eastern woods.

If I'm hunting, I wear my binos and rangefinder on a chest harness, except when I'm hunting from a saddle. It just gets in the way there.
