How Much Total Weight do You Carry

Yikes what the heck is wrong with me. This ol man WAS carrying 53lbs INCLUDING camera gear. Not counting bow or clothes. Cant anymore. Hunted all last season with camera gear and the Mantis and 4 lone wolf sticks or bolts in presetts......left some fourth arrow bases in trees......waaaaaaaayyyyyy lighter however I never weighed
the gear. Now I gotta weigh it cuz of this thread.

My full loc-on stand setup:
Treehopper mini
10 grade 8 bolts
Linemans
Tether
Windwalker
Original windwalker pack
Petzl adrama rch
Kill kit
Leopoldn10x42
11.35lbs
View attachment 13719

Saddle setup varies, anywhere from right around 6lbs to 10+. Anderson and cf bolts, plus above other stuff(4 cranford t steps for ros) or greens saddle depending on spot, weather, and time. Add 1lb ish for public land and using strap on aluminum steps (10)
This is really cool. I don't think I've ever seen on of those original loc on packs.

Mantis with LB, tether, pull up rope, saw, release, CAYG aider, bow hanger in dump pouch

Exo frame pack with beavertail
3 Beast sticks
Predator platform
Molle butt pack with grunt tube, rattle bag, head lamp, TP, charger bank, spare battery, knee pads

19.88# not including bow or late season clothes.

I can get 18ft in any tree and packs up sweet. (Finally figured out a good way to carry the beast sticks so they pack up nice) I'll take a 4th beast stick when I know I need to be higher.

Man I love saddles!Screenshot_20190719-071015_Gallery.jpg

I need to weigh my set up but I think I’m around 13 or 14 pounds. I carry the JX3 hybrid with the tether and one hawk helium stick. Only thing else I carry is my rangefinder, 12 ounce water, and my release and all of that is in my pocket

Well this thread got me wondering so I went out and weighed my pack and climbing method. All told 22#. That's 6 WE stepps to 30 ft. Not including binos, range finder, 4 sandwiches, some cookies, thermos of coffee, chunk of banana bread some water, and some kind of chocolate. Extra clothes if it's cold. Sometime I bring an extra thermos of hot soup. I could be humping close to 40# when it's cold. The key to it all is my pack

It all adds up quick

I think a lot of us are in denial for how much we carry

I need to weigh mine now for sure

mystery ranch pop up 28= 4.8lbs empty.
Kestrel Flex with predator bridge, tethered SYS pouch and two kifaru large pouches. Lineman's belt, tether, various carabiners: approximately 5lbs.
Predator stand: 3lbs 5oz.

Climbing items:
DRT:

75' of predator rope for DRT: 5lbs (6.7lbs per 100 feet/= 0.067x75'=5.025lbs.
prussic tender+carabiner+mini-pulley+ prussic=5 ozs.

One stick method:
Muddy pro with 42" aider and 12" of black heater hose: >4lbs.

Rods and treehopper
12 titanium rods=1.5lbs
12 carbon rods= 1lb
10 grade 8 rods=1.75lbs
(all weights are approximate as I haven't weighed the rods)
treehopper drill 4 ozs.
Chest pack for set: 6 ozs.

Cranford folding steps: 5 and ratchet strap...no clue as i don't have it yet...in the mail.

V-method:
Big wall aider and 2 10' hss ropes and prussics 1.5 lbs.

WATER: 1 fluid ounce weighs 1.04 dry ounces...16 ounces of water weighs in at 1.04 lbs. I usually try and carry 30 ounces of water which equals just under 2lbs.

Approximate weight for everything (bow, water, food) is 27.2 lbs of gear and that's if I bring everything listed. I know I won't but I'll probably bring my DRT rope in the bottom of my pack and my one stick method and predator or cranford folding steps. So with that said I know that my pack is 4.8 lbs. DRT rope is 5lbs. Cranford steps is under 1 lb and my predator stand is 3lbs.

Pack: 4.8
DRT: 5.5
Predator: 3.5
Kestrel: 5lbs
Matthews Triax: 4.46 pounds + 5 arrow tightspot quiver 9.9 ounces and 5 arrows @400 grains each is approx 5lbs total for bow setup.
food: >1 lbs of food
Water: >2 lbs of water

26 lbs of gear, food, water and weapon. Take out my DRT method and I'm at 21lbs. Take out my predator and that's now 18.3 lbs and add the cranford steps >20 lbs. This is early season...factor in mid season and late season clothing and the weight goes up extensively.

I don't count the grams, ounces etc...as I used to carry out in the woods 45-50 lbs of climbing stand, harness, life line, kill kit, food water and everything I thought I would need. The saddle system is light speed compared to what I used to carry 3-5 years ago.

So last night I went to my basement and weighed almost all of my climbing gear...What surprised me the most was that my saddle with my heavy duty suspenders, two kifaru large pouches, one sys hauler, and one doyles gear hoist, bridge, 2 ropeman 1's, tether, two extra linemans belts and one extra tether, and back recliner is 9lbs 7ozs. This also includes gear holders, and extra carabiners, etc.

Pack 4lbs 8ozs.
75' DRT predator rope: 4lbs 14ozs
treehopper with 10 carbon rods, 3 titanium rods and 5 grade 8 rods are 2lbs 6ozs.
Yates big wall +2 ropes system 2lb 8ozs
One muddy pro stick and aider is 3lbs 12ozs
30 ounces of water is 2lbs
food is 8ozs
kill kit 1lb 1oz
knee pad 8ozs
saw/pruners 15ozs

When I added everything that I'm carrying with bow included (minus the clothes, boots, undewear, cold weather gear, mid season gear, etc, etc, etc,) I'm at 32lbs. When I say everything I am adding up all my climbing systems, pack, etc.

So here is my saddle: Kestrel Flex, heavy duty suspenders (I lack a butt so it kept falling down), 2 kifaru pouches, one sys pouch, one back band, one gear holder with three hero clips, one tether, one backup tether/linemans webbing, one lineman's belt, one doyles gear hoist, and a couple of carabiners. This all can fit in my pack.

Pack: kill kit, saw, pruners, water, food, knee pads, DRT rope, 1 muddy pro.

All this is 23.75lbs. I can reduce that to under 20lbs if I only carry one climbing system...however I usually like to carry two just in case I have to have an alternate and go to a preset location.

JX 3 Hybrid
LoneWolf Hand Climber
2 Cranford Steps
1 Eno Hammock Strap
Tether
Horn Hunter Day Pack
2 knives
Pruning Saw
3 Synthetic Game Bags
Headlamp
Flashlight
Sawyer Squeeze Filter/Bladder
Range Finder
Two 32oz Nalgene water bottles

26 lbs.

Ha! I forgot to include bow and quiver and binos. That adds another 8ish for me. Now I too need to re-weigh everything. I might have been selling myself short on what I was carrying last year and what I will be carrying this year.
I am headed in the right direction but was too optimistic in my first post. Last years all-in setup (Stand, harness, binos, hawk sticks, range finder, bow, quiver, knife, backpack, rope, water) weighed in tonight at 41 lb 4.6 oz -yikes! this years setup (mantis, tether, linesman, binos, hawk sticks, range finder bow, quiver, backpack, predator platform, knee pads, water) weighed in at 28 lb 0.6 oz. Good progress since last year but still a ways to go.

I have an archery setup (Kite, DIY sticks, Podium) in a Gameplan Gear Full Rut pack with kill kit and misc knick knacks that weighed in at 23 lbs. No food or water as I don't take any on half day archery hunts. The best places to shave weight are in the pack (4 lbs +), the platform (drop 1.5-2 lbs if I swap out to ROS), and the Doyle's Gear Hoist (drop better part of 1 lb to go back to paracord). I also could drop my 4th stick and save 1.5 lbs. So a more minimalist version would be 18-19 lbs. Just realized I forgot to put my binos in the pack so add whatever those ridiculously heavy things weigh. Gotta find a better solution there for sure.

My gun season setup is the JX3, no pack, Muddy 1-stick and three Ameristeps. I haven't weighed that set yet but I'm estimating that it comes in around the high teens not counting food & water (I'll take a little) and the extra clothing needed for late season temps in the northeast (pretty much triple the weight load!).

It is interesting to learn what everyone takes with them, but the resulting total weights don't mean much as there are so many variables at play as others have mentioned. For soft saddles I tend to focus on the major components of climbing system and platform style when comparing weights. Last year (saddle year 1) I focused hard on minimizing weight & bulk in a public land legal fashion. Using WEs w/Kn/Sw and an ROS I was at 5.5-6 lbs. I also tried a Primal plywood platform that raised my set to 6-7 lbs.

I was a little spooked by the Swaider given a couple pucker moments so year 2 is the "year of the climbing stick" for me. I also picked up a Podium to have a more formal platform setup. This brings my climb/platform weight to 7.5-9 lbs depending on whether I go with three sticks & CAYGA or four sticks. Heavier and bulkier for sure, but safety and ease of climbing (real or imagined) is worth the marginal difference.

I do wonder if after this year is all said and done whether I will just become a JX3 guy exclusively. It is so dang comfortable and requires no serious hunk of metal for your feet nor pack to carry everything. Just not ready to give up on the soft saddle experience just yet. I love it all unfortunately. Just ask my wife and my bank account.

Mantis w/tether(1.5 lbs)
Ameristep ROS(1.5 lbs)
Yates big wall aider w/tether(1.5 lbs)
Backpack: knife, deer drag, snacks, goldbond, survival kit, poo poo paper, and 2 liters(2lbs) of water. (3.5 lbs total)

8lbs. total which will lighten up as I drink the water.
What backpack do you have? 1.5lbs for a backpack knife, deer drag, snacks, gold bond survival kit and TP seems really light. Or did I misunderstand something.

I use the Gerber Epoch backpack. I switched out the original hydration bladder(3liters) for a smaller/lighter(2liters) one and cut off the waist belt(had a big dumb buckle on it and didn’t ever use it). Original empty weight was 2.25 lbs but now it weighs almost a pound.

Survival kit is nothing more than a small bic lighter, strike anywhere matches, small fire cube, small portable phone charger/cable, extra aaa batteries for small hat clip headlamp, extra thermacell pads/cartridges, bandaids.
Small pocket knife, small goldbond, small energy bars...I like things compact and simple. It’s amazing how many ounces you shave just by downsizing the basics while not leaving them behind. After hiking a mile you’ll appreciate those extra ounces/lbs you shaved8DA407EC-31B9-4F10-841C-BD42D1769D73.png

I was hunting out of a summit open shot climber (about 15lbs) with probably 3 lbs of gear (harness, calls and scent, headlamp). I thought I could really save some weight with the saddle and spurs. Pack+spurs+ saddle and ropes + call, scent and headlamp and I am at 20lbs. Add some type of platform (to be determined) and I am probably coming in at 23lbs. I did lower the bulk significantly and am more flexible with the trees I can hunt from, but from a weight perspective I may have gone backwards.

I'm at 22 pounds
mantis with two dump pouches, tether and lineman's rope with a ropeman 1
my pack has my kill kit, foam pad, range finder, binos grunt call, external battery and 200 lumen headlamp
3 helium stick with diy versa button, straps, podium platform and carry strap/backband.

this doesn't include water or food with those two things will probably be 23 or 24 pounds.
