Hunting Canoe

I’m hoping to duck hunt out of mine. I do use it to access remote spots for deer, but I learned the hard way last year that when you paddle across a pond in November the other shore might be frozen...

I duck hunted out of mine for several seasons and loved it. I’ll try to find a picture. I sold it when I bought my duck boat and I’m regretting it.

I use a two person kyack, after taking a dip in a canoe with my kid in cold water. Super stable. If the banks are steep I will sit in the front and put my gear in the back. If the bank is flat I sit in the back, and can push shimmy my self up the bank.

Deer don't see to mind the ride out in the front seat either. I shot this one with my life jacket still on this year.

What brand kayak?

Sweet man! I’m very new to duck hunting so it’ll get me out there.

That looks awesome! That’s my plan for this summer is to set mine up like that!

It was heavy and near impossible to paddle alone with all my gear. I ran three to four dozen decoys and my dog. I added a 36lb thrust trolling motor and outriggers and hunted big water with it.

Thanks! That was a pretty fun hunt. Scouted that spot with the canoe in the spring, came back in the fall and made it happen. Public land, about an hour-long paddle into that spot.

so funny to me that people avoid things like this on purpose. Half the fun in these hunts is the process. Type 2!

Picked up a SportsPal s13 about 12yrs ago to trap out of, have been extremely happy with it. With a boat cushion on top of the stern and some weight inside the canoe, I have set side-saddle with my legs in the water, drifting down stream checking traps. Spent many days fly fishing from it while standing up, again with added weight in the front, but was stable enough. I'm 6'4" and 255 for reference. Have a small Honda for it and can carry both 100yds+ very easily. One in the pic is my buddy's, he borrowed mine several times before pulled the trigger.

I found an old town guide 147 for $300. I’m going to go look at later today.
