It do say that. Up in N Alabama there doesn’t seem to be as many of the live oaks but the few areas where I know there are some are near lots of water oaks. I had the understanding that they were red oaks just like the water oaks so I never really fooled with them. The big thing is whether deer are feeding on them and prefer them. I’ll have to check a few and see if they’re getting some action. The deer have a lot to eat so they don’t typically fool with the water oaks from what I’ve seen. But that might make the live oaks great feed trees.

Both of those pictures were of live oaks, part of the red oak family. He probably was just mentioning the white oaks looked good. Live oaks limbs often hang close to the grown so that’s probably how he was able to get such a good up close picture if I had to guess.
ahh gotcha thanks. Those are the ones with the big branches we had everywhere in SC lowcountry. Never hunted while livin down there so never paid attention to the leaves. Those are really cool lookin trees when they get old. With the spanish moss n whatnot. ***dont bring that moss in your house if you dont like chiggers.

So I met with a private land conversation specialist today about my property. He used picture this and I used iNatuarlist. His picture this blew the inaturalist away. Just FYI.

Don’t listen to me, It appears they are white oaks. Weldabeast and flcanopy are in Florida so they’re gonna be your best infor. I deleted my post to stop confusing folks.

Moss hanging off the tree has zero chiggers....once it's on the ground is when they get in there....people used to make a living collecting Spanish moss back in the day...a Spanish moss mattress factory is where the fire that burned Jacksonville started

Down here the swamp chestnut oak and the live oak are the majority of white oaks in our area. We have an abundance of hickories, pines and palms lol

so a live oak is a white oak? like theres a white oak family of oaks? i feel like the oak tree is gonna get cancelled for all this racial division. The black oaks do have some monster acorns...just sayin

Yea but what really matter is the size of the trunk ;)

Yeah when most folks say they are hunting a white oak, they are talking about an Quercus Alba. But there are a bunch of different types of oaks in the white oak family. Sorta the same for reds. There are norther and southern red oaks then a bunch of other oaks in the red family.

Yea thats the white oak i think of. Deer crack. God they love them little nuggets. this year should be good in a few of my spots. last year was nothin and also the 17 yr cicadas wrecked every other tree in the woods.

Yep...thats them....think gone with the wind or forest Gump on the bench....southern icon...
Southern live oak sailed the world...

Here in Southwest Ga Our deer feed on water oaks and live oaks more so than any other Why Because that is what grows here. They also drop the earliest and will continue to drop the longest in comparison to other varieties Usually the water oaks and live oaks get most attention in October with Redoaks dropping later in early November
