IF YOU COULD ONLY CHOOSE ONE CAMO PATTERN!?

ASAT was my go to but I could not find exactly what I was looking for so I designed my own. If you are interested, see the thread "What do you think of this camo pattern?" in the vendor area to see what I will be wearing this fall.

I want to pick up a jacket and pants in kuiu vias. I have a pack in vias and I like the pattern. I have No clue what the deer think about it. I have a buddy that got vias for elk but deer hunts in it exclusively as well. A couple times when we were scouting I lost him completely at only like 40 yards away. To me it blended in very well early fall.

I picked up some Natural gear stuff on clearance and I’d say Natural Gears stuff looks natural enough to me. I have a fleece pullover from them and it’s extremely comfortable. They have very woodsy muted shapes, colors and textures. They look cool to me, but again, no clue how well they actually do. My biggest beef was with how bulky their windstopper clothes were.

I had always liked the Underarmor Storm Hardwoods and Forest patterns however I was not willing to pay the price tag for that stuff. Last season it went on like 50% clearance and I picked up a couple pieces. As hot as it is hear the UA stuff will probably get the most use since I bought the early season light layers. Even in the late season I wore the UA as a mid layer walking in and out and went over it with the natural gear stuff. Again, no clue whether it helps at all.

I don’t really care a whole lot about camo. If I can find decent pieces at fair price I’ll wear it. I’ve killed in realtree, mossy oak, under armor, natural gear, and I’ve messed up plenty of hunts too and I don’t think camo would have been the difference. The baby bucks don’t discriminate. 69F976C9-707B-475D-B658-815002BF6691.jpeg

If u could only choose 1 solid color what would it be?

I'm going with grey..or gray

beige.

For deer mid season fall through rut, Predator Fall Gray, ASAT, Mossy Oak Terra Gila, Kryptek Highlander, USGI Desert Camo, Multicam, anything open pattern and lighter to break up your outline.
For late season most leaves are down and hunting elevated, all of the above and/or Snow Camo. You need to blend with the sky not the dark woods.
For early season or turkey season most any camo is fine.

IMHO the open patterns for a majority of the fall to late season are absolutely proven. My ML buck last year I had on an IWOM in the predator fall gray. The deer came out into a powerline ROW I was overlooking a brushy strip that ran from a ridge to feed fields. Yes there was snow on the ground but I was up in a maple and everything looked dark that day. Even so, there were no leaves and I was backlit by the wide open sky and several hardwood tree trunks. the buck came out still harassing a group of does….. I shot, he ran off and i literally was moving to reload and the deer were all within 4O yards and they could absolutely not pick me out. Now I wasn’t moving aggressively but I moved methodically and ended up reloading with three deer basically standing there wondering what was going on. Yes the wind was right too but I made normal and deliberate but not quick or jerky movements and they could not confirm with their eyes any danger after the report of the ML.

Badlands Approach FX or Kuiu Valo, if I had to pick only one. I personally own a bunch of Approach and Approach FX, but no Kuiu stuff (yet...). I do own many, many, different camo patterns and brands...

Solids? I'm going to say the mid-tone grays, or gray/green spectrum.

+1 on the EV2 it’s not only a great whitetail pattern it’s good for the high desert too.

Over the last 30 years, more than half of my deer have been killed with a camo jacket and bluejeans. I have plenty of camo pants, bibs, etc. but after a few days I've often said screw it and wear jeans. Maybe it's because deer see blue all the time when they look up. Blue or UV from above isn't threatening.

Most of my stuff is Realtree Edge, as it's one that's pretty common and easy to find different items in the same pattern, and works well around here However, I am a big fan of the strata pattern if I can get it. It's harder to find consistently, but I like the way it melts into areas where I hunt. It's what I tried to copy it when painting my climbing sticks as well.
