Are cam cleats that have a safe working load of 300 pounds suitable for primary human support?

My fixed buckle mod makes the Helium easy to work with one hand. Hold stick below buckle and push button with thumb to release. Slide up tree without unhooking strap. Pull tag end to tighten. Eazy peazy.

I like your mod, but I don’t think I would trust those thin slots for holding the weight.

The force exerted is a shearing force on the screws. The screws would have to be pulled completely through the center of the stick to fail. IMHO.
I thought about mounting them on the left side pulling left but I thought about the same concern as you. Too thin.
So far, no problem at all.

I would think there is some outward pressure being applied to that aluminum. I'm no engineer, but at 250# its just not within my margin of trust. I love the idea though.

You hook a line with a carabiner on the girth hitch before you rappel down. When you get to the ground you pull on the line and pull your rope down. The line can be 550 cord or whatever won't break on you.

I found, while a bit more bulky, that using about a 15ft length of 1 inch webbing with a carabiner attached works better for retrieval than 550 cord. I assume it's because I can pull down hard on the larger surface area of the webbing.

I have started wearing a pair of fingerless gloves so I can pull harder on lines without finger damage.

You could install some steel straps across the back to screws on the other side.

Quick question...I just ordered my Harken Cam-Matic 150...for my Helium climbing stick...was wondering how are they attached...bolt size/length./lock nut and does it need to be a grade level bolt? Going to try one sticking soon..first season Saddlehunting....Thanks
TURK
Did you ever get this resolved? Interested in knowing what bolts to use as well

I thought the same as well...however after doing the one stick for several hunts, I actually broke out 4 more sticks and did not like it...I wasn't able to get as high as before and honestly I did not like carrying the extra weight. Truth be told...I find the one stick much more effecient with a CAYG 3 step aider and I can get 5' per each time I set the stick.

For the ultimate one stickin experience replace your oem strap or rope mod for a harken cam cleat and see just how amazing it can be. Recently swapped to one from the rope mod (which I found way better than the LW buckle/strap) and was shocked at how it simplified and quickened my climbs.

I used a muddy for a while. Loved it. I then tried the beast sticks and they stick to the tree very well and I preferred their step height and weight. But I really missed the cam cleat. So I bought a Harken and an aluminum tube from DanO. I transferred over the hardware from the beast stick to DanO's tubing and put the Harken on it. It's possibly the most expensive way imaginable to get a stick, but it works perfectly for me. I wasn't bold enough to put some extra holes in the beast tubes as it already has so many.

X2. I tried out a stick with cam buckle on it for a few hunts worked but felt slow. Finally got my ultra light with cam cleat finished, omg what a world of difference.
