Is one-sticking still a thing?

It is for me. Still climbing trees with my one stick every day.
Just finished a 3week hunt vacation. Split my climbs between one sticking and two sticks/platform. By the end of the trip, I’m back to only one sticking. Just way less stuff to fool with going up and packing up. Rappel down either way tho. But…it’s not for everyone

100% aside from a couple pre sets with sticks or bolts.

I made a sit last weekend. Picked a tree in the dark, was off about 60 yards. Got down, moved to where I needed to be, and was back hunting in under 30 minutes.

To me it's not having to carry a bunch of crap and try to pack sticks and a platform. Bow in one hand, stick in the other, and my pack. If it's a super long walk then I will put it on my pack

You guys think it's growing in popularity still? Or is it falling out of favor a bit?
Difficult to say as saddlehunting is a bit of a learning curve and evolution of style. Once folks get settled in they start trying out different methods and ultimately go back to what works. Many folks don’t mind hauling multiple sticks. Judging by the classifieds here and on AT I’d say some folks still are. I still one stick but am planning to try 2TC for the fourth time(cuz I’m too dumb to know when too quit). For me one sticking saves me the weight and fiddle factor of multiple sticks, the downside is I get stupid sweaty and to do it quickly I gotta aggravate my bum hip.

I continue to 1 stick I dabbled in 2tc and I have presets as well but even my presets I often take my stick with me because the platform is so far more comfortable than anything else I own. I learned the hard way to climb with my pack on. If you’re half way up the tree and deer come in alls you have to do is yank that bow up quick!!!

I want 2TC to work so badly, I’ve got a rig put together, the most I’ve used it is to get a pre-set in a tree after 75 misses with the throw ball.

I’d be curious to hear about your 2TC experiences. I’ve done it too. I want it to work so bad, it seems like the answer on paper. I’ve experimented quite a bit, and have a functional setup put together, I’m still not 100% happy with it though.

First season 1 sticking, and I'm really digging it. I've been using it on about 90% of my hunts. Unless I'm hunting area that I've never been to before and I'm not sure what kind of trees I might find I'm taking multiple stick and platform. I like not carrying all that extra weight if I don't have to.

For me trying to 2TC is like a monkey humping a football. I lack the coordination and I have a hip injury that makes it difficult. It’s absolutely not some thing you’ll get the first or even 10th try, it takes practice. I’ve been going to the chiro trying to get my hip loosened up which should help a ton. I like the portability of it. I’m going to give it a try again once the season is over

When I first tried it, it was one stick and a platform. It sucked! I couldn’t get my foot into the aider while I dangled from my rope. This year I modified a Muddy pro stick with an EWO standoff and platform. What a difference! Now it is easy.

One sticking works for me the best so far. Took me a while to work out the kinks but now it’s effortless. I enjoy the lighter weight and it gives me the mobility and flexibility I need to hunt just about anywhere. Tried 2TC but I’m still lost with that technique.

I am getting ready to make myself a one stick platform. I've been playing around with a few different designs. Here is one I think will work. It has a top platform of 12" x 8" and a bottom platform of 12" x 4" with a 16" stick.

I’d recommend designing your standoffs to put the front of your stick farther off the tree, so your aider hangs far enough from the tree to easily get your boot far enough into the aider. Once I got the stand-off form Eastern Woods Outdoors, one stick climbing got much easier.
