Is one-sticking still a thing?

Have only climbed using 1-stick this season and have no plans on going back. With my BIG BOB stick and a 3 step aider I can get to hunting height in 3 moves and extremely quickly and quietly.

According to social media you’re either one sticking or want to be. It’s a direct replacement for the most popular mobile method - climber so it makes since.
 
still a thing, its just situational for me. on the lease, presets all day everyday. On public, it depends....i have one area thats primarily pine and access isnt terrible so i use multiple sticks...one sticking on pines makes too much noise....another WMA i hunt is thick and nasty and i know im covering alot of ground out there and i wont have a problem finding a hardwood tree to get in so one stick it is.
 
I've gone to one sticking for almost all of my gun hunting, the ability to get up to 25-30ft with less gear and noise has been great. That said for archery it's about 50/50
 
After a few seasons of three-sticking, then two seasons of one-sticking, I think I'm going to go to two-sticking next year. Just eliminate that first move, get me up the tree a little faster.

In the rut I like to be able to move nimble and quick. If I see action afar, I often adjust to go to it, and I like to make that move as fast as possible. One-sticking is a little slower and this year I hesitated a couple times to make those quick moves and one day missed out on a kill because of it. Two sticks strap to my stand a lot better than three. So I can still be pretty compact. Before the leaves come off it's not rare for me to hunt two sticks high.

this is basically what i do 90% of the time except i technically use 3 sticks...2 full size lone wolfs and the 3rd is my 18'' stick with platform top step. The first 2 sticks gets me up quick and then i have the ability to 'one stick' higher if needed. its still a nice lightweight and compact system.

I’ve done that this year as well. My first stick is just a 10” with one step and a 4 step amsteel aider with Daisy chain. Weighs just over a pound and gets me to about 7’ in 30 secs. It was pretty slick actually.

I think the buzz has died down a bit. I invested heavily into one-sticking 2 years ago and saw some advantages, but when Tethrd released 1 lb climbing sticks, that pack tightly together, I went back to sticks. With 4 Tethrd sticks I can get into more trees, faster, with less effort. I use a 3 step aider on the first step and get to 20 feet in about 5 minutes.

Sold the One Sticking setup for a big loss.
 
Am I the ONLY ONE still wanting to SRT? That’s the one I want to do! Still doing the boring ole 1 stick thing. I have modified some things and got rid of the mechanical ascenders……but I want to climb big knarly trees!

You can one stick with your Tethrd One Stick and sell your other three sticks to get your money back.

I plan on doing this exact technique next year.
 
Decided to pull the old gal out of retirement. She hasn’t seen much action since 2TC won my heart, but she still holds a special place among my saddlehunting gear. She had been feeling a little wobbly on an old Lonewolf post for some some time, but a crisp piece of 1 in tube and some vet tape has her feeling brand new. 3.5 lbs and 3 moves to 20 feet speaks for itself. One sticking is:
too dangerous...
creates slack in your tether system...
too noisy...
too slow...
is a fad...
said all the people who:
know their limitations...
can't master it...
don't practice...
are physically unable...
are mentally challenged...
drink lattes..
won't admit it's superior to 2TC...

Trees covered in solid ice really put a poo into the pool party for onesticking or any aider dependent climbing form.
