Did you happen to run some CF for structure to the knee rest?

I've tried both and finally went with knee pads. I had a foam pad but it seemed to take up too much room. And it never seemed to be where I wanted it. I get fidgety and change my tether length a lot. It was always too high or too low.

I like to metal detect and I wear bibs because all the getting up and down makes it difficult to keep my pants up. I like bibs with the built-in knee pockets and I just cut a couple pieces of cushion foam and put it in the knee pockets. I don't know how difficult with would be to keep them in place during saddle hunting. They may try to walk sideways due to the curvature of the tree but as for walking in and out of the woods, they would be great.

Has anyone saddle hunted with pants or bibs that has built-in knee pockets?

This is not an add for the Trophyline knee pads. I had the same problem with whatever knee pads I had used falling down walking in. The Trophyline done and I believe the reason is that the lower strap which sits on top of your calf muscle is webbing instead of elastic so it doesn’t stretch...

Thanks. I was wondering if pants or bibs with those built-in knee pockets would want to twist sideways when pushing your knees against the tree. With a smaller tree, the side pressure might cause the pads to slip sideways.

Maybe PM those who use them. I'm a no knee pads, no feeling in my knees kinda person. lol.

I've used the belt on my Kifaru Duplex Lite and the Stryker XL bag itself in a rare moment of weakness. But it was old ankle injuries that drove me there, lol.

Hadn’t thought about changing my tether length and then having to adjust the pad….

Does the u channel work well for the post? As a shape mostly, does it function well?

Yes it does. As the common top post design, a u channel makes having the cam cleat installed easier, and makes the foot rest rod have 2 points if support, an I beam couldn't do that.
I also can only use the scraps I get, and carbon I beams don't get thrown away too often.

Yes there is a 6 ply carbon plate in the knee rest that makes it so much better because a pad without it is hard to keep your knees from slowly sliding out. This solves the thigh exhaustion that comes from holding your legs together on a rounded surface.
But of course the JX3 light and whale tail solves that too....lol.

Well try with a knee pad with a thin hard say plywood backing, and just maybe I can sell you a thin slighty rounded carbon plate to use....
Or use an old snowboard etc.....

I use an old piece of eggshell padding from an old bedroll. Just cut a piece to size and strap it around the tree. It's not pretty and I'm sure others have solutions that are either lighter and smaller or more comfortable, but I doubt anyone has a more effective or less expensive piece to solve the problem.

With as inexpensive as both items are try them both...use some cheap kneepads for 2 hunts then switch to the kneeler pad for 2...

Personally I'd recommend knee pads....but not the new bottomland colored trophyline 1s....the original vintage 1s are great but the new version is no good. The EWO are nice....the offerings at home Depot are nice too. I've seen some people use hard shelled but I prefer the soft face

I have some surplus bdu pants that u can insert padding into and have tried that but the pants are so baggy I don't think I gave it a fair try to give a yay or nay on that option..real baggy pants and the knee pad installed in them flopped around like crazy and I took them out almost instantly. A better fitting pant maybe it better?

Knee pad made from foam seat cushion, small bungee, and a zip tie. Cheap and effective!

I really enjoy wearing knee pads. I find them really handy for when I’m walking in and want to kneel down or kneeling down at the tree to get my stuff ready.

I use the foam pads from Walmart and love them! I did replace the Velcro straps with straps I had laying around that have clips….NO VELCRO!
