Knife for Saddle Hunters

I don't want to scare anybody but I carry this "Weapon of Mass Destruction" everywhere (except airplanes). :tearsofjoy:

While saddle hunting, or climbing, I also have my folding knife that is part of my kill kit (wait that is my entire kill kit) in a pocket of the turkey vest I use for a pack. It stays in that pocket and is accessible while climbing unlike my WMD which I keep in my pants pocket and would likely be hard to get at in an emergency climbing situation.

Generally a combination of 2 of these Benchmades... one on or in a pocket and one in my pack

I have a video of mine on my YouTube below. $25 bucks on Amazon, holds an edge great and has held up in amazing fashion. Made by CRKT called the Minimalist! As @Jay_Disarray said and uses, this too is a neck/boot knife. Give it a looksie! I slip the hard plastic sheath in the stop watch pocket of my jeans and it holds true even when pulling the knife out. Available in different blade styles.
I like the looks of the tanto blade on those.

I have a SOG Trident that lives in my pocket whenever I have pants or shorts on. There is always at least my Ka-bar in my pack. A few other blades are floating around in the kill pack.

I have a spyderco para 3. Its been my EDC for several years. I bring it everywhere. Good steel, lightweight and low profile. Kershaw also makes pretty good knives and they offer a great warranty (something spyderco lacks). I use it for everything. When saddle hunting I keep it in my pack or pocket.

Those are great looking knives.

See you in a tree, Ricky

Thank you! I actually just got the hidden canyon to complete the set a few weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier with them! A lot of guys talk smack about benchmade but once a year I send them a box full of knifes and they clean , tune and sharpen all of them free and send them back free and looking brand new... usually with a free gift... they have a customer in me for life!

These 2 are my EDC knives, the ontario Is my work knife and junk cutter, pry bar, etc... the benchmade is for skinning, cutting sandwich, or whatever else that wont mess a blade up. Also carry these 2 when I hunt but usually add a morokniv, a small case trapper and an old winchester knife I got as a kid. Any of those 3 make trips to the woods.20200828_065150.jpg

This guy is goes in my pack for presetting. Might go back in for hunting certain areas that can get awful briary for deer recovery.

I carried the same one in green for over a decade. Might give it to one of my son’s.

Nowadays, I carry a stainless Izula in a custom sheath. It disappears.

In my pack I carry a benchmade steep canyon and this victorinox boning knife that weighs nothing:

Where did you buy the Izula? See it on a number of websites, don’t want to buy a knockoff.

My EDC is a Bradford G- Necker. I can’t say enough good things about this knife. I never thought I would like a fixed blade for EDC, but I don’t think I’ll ever go back now.

I bought this knife down in GA for Saddlepalooza earlier this year becuase I forget my knife at home. Gutted and dressed a hog with it! Great little backup knife!

I always have my Spyderco aqua salt on me, they H1 steel is rustproof and it is a working edge so it takes a little bit to get it sharp and to hold its edge but once you have it honed it's my edc.

Always have my yellow handle Case trapper. It goes everywhere with me. I do usually when hunting away from home have 2 more in my pack....an outdoor edge folding switch blade and a Camillus gut hook fixed blade.
