Hey guys, looking for knife recommendations but I’m looking for something more unique. Brands like Buck, Kershaw, Benchmade are all great. I’m just wondering what else you guys use and like? Something more like a hidden gem knife. Not your everyday brand knife.
I’m fairly young and want a life long knife to go with me. Do all my skinning and cutting up animal meat for me through out my life. Something I can look back on and say “well son this knife has cut up 50 deer”. Or if you have a knife that means something to you with a good story post it here! Thanks.

I am a big fan of knives. If you can get your hands on a Dozier knife it will be the only hunting knife you will ever need. I am sure there are others out there but I believe Doziers are some of the best out there. I also like local blacksmiths and I have one here in western pa that does excellent work. Forged In Kol in slippery rock PA. The guy is great and makes some fantastic knives. I had him make a kitchen knife set for my wife for an anniversary gift and she loves them. If you are looking for a knife to pass down generations, he will make you one.

here is the kitchen set he made me. Two to the left are specifically for deer processing at home.

Morakniv. Thank me later. They make one for every situation. Won’t break the bank and tough as nails. Take an edge easy and hold it. Beat it like it owes you lunch money and it laughs at you and your pathetic excuses.

I'll add another couple Ohio knife makers to go along with Ltwright and bhk, hair of the bear and lance booth knives

Woody Smith out of OR. 3 month lead time but each is made to order and his pricing is in line with the Benchmades, Spyderco, etc. won’t break the bank

I’m a huge fan of buck and bear knives because they’re local. I have the older version of this guy and it only comes out for hunting.

Helle polar knife I bought a blank and it has gutted and cut up over 75 deers since I bought it 20 years ago my first foray into knife assembly. It has gutted and cut up 6 deer before I have to sharpen which I lay flat in a diamond stine and couple swipes on each side and it’s razor freakin sharp

I am another Bark River fan. I have about a dozen of them. My favorite is the Kephart. I have the 3 and 5 inch I want the 4" but I'm having a hard time finding one.

I really like the Knives of Alaska as they are made with D2 tool steel. This is a corrosion resistant air hardening grade that holds an edge better than any other steel. SV30 and 440C are good knife steels also.

Knives of Alaska are also my favorite. I like the alpha wolf the best.

you didn't mention spyderco, and i like them more than any other commercial brand

but if you want something that is unique, check these out, neat and strong rotating lock mechanism

Opinel is a damn good knife I have one in my truck and one in my kill kit as a back up. word of advise make sure you lock it down before use and clean it throughly and dry good as the locking mechanism can get stuck. Real easy to sharpen and stays sharp

I’ll second that. Got one for Christmas last year and it’s the beans. A really efficient tool that quickly became my favorite for one huge reason. I can throw knife and sheath in the dishwasher. My first one has a carbon blade so it has to be dried pretty quick or it will rust. My second has a stainless steel blade so it’s worry free. My second also has a fluorescent orange handle and sheath so there will be no looking for it if it’s on the ground. I don’t carry a knife on the belt, it goes in my pack.
