I've been using the Kong Slyde for a couple of years now. I personally use it on my tether. I two tether climb and it's worked great for me. Easy to adjust with one hand, once weighted it is solid. Good for 9-10mm rope. All aluminum, rated for 2500kg. I use some shrink tube and a couple castration bands to keep it quite on the carabiner. Doesn't make a sound. Just thought I'd share.

I just made one over the weekend. More about the two tether climbing, but it does show how I use it. I'll post the link anyways. I could also do a close up video of the Slyde.

Fyi I'm not one for talking into camera's, so bear with me.

It's great seeing so many different ways to do this method! I like your way, as the thigh loop adds complexity to me.

Love the video. I’ve 2TC climbed very similar with a second loop on my foot tether that I would step into, but I like the way you use the ropeman better than what I attempted. Seems quicker and then you don’t need to fiddle around getting your foot into the loop. I also put an order in for a Kong slyde - never heard of it but you can’t beat the price :) I’ll let you know how it goes when I can give your method a try. Thanks for sharing

Here’s a video from my 2nd or 3rd attempt at what I’m describing above -

This is awesome. I am going to try it because I have everything from my one stick setup. I am going to use my madrock and repel line for my main tether. I ordered a Kong slyde too because it is so cheap and I like how it allegedly reduces impact from a fall which is one of the main criticisms of an ascender on the tether.

i dig it man looks like you got a good system. might replace my prussik with that. i use oplux but i have a bunch of canyon IV i could swap. this wouldnt work with oplux im assuming? its gotta be rated higher than falling on a ropeman/kong ascender right? surprised ive never heard of the slyde. good stuff!

the 2 tether climbing method is only for straight trees or can you get around limbs??

Yeah let me know how it works for you. I like this setup because it's just easy to adjust when you need. Makes the climb more consistent for me. If that makes sense? Plus you cant really beat that price!

Thanks man. I've seen it's only for 9-10mm rope. I read on a rock climbing forum about a guy using it with 8mm and it did slip. I do have some oplux, just never felt the urge to try. I could check next time I'm out. As far as rating goes, it's stamped kg2500 on one side. It's a little more difficult on leaners, depending how much. Getting around branches isn't to difficult. Just use my linemans belt, also that's why I use the quick link. I didn't like removing my bridge and backup knot from the carabiner.

This is the setup I am going to try.

Green 9mm htp up top with madrock is main tether and identical to one stick setup. Packed away in roll pouch, etc.

Bottom is 9mm htp with quick link I had laying around. What remains to be seen is if the quick link falls down a ton with slack. I will end up putting a stopper knot on the line or just switching to figure 8 on a bight in lieu of quick link. The other thing is foot loop length. Not sure if it is too long right now and when I move the kong duck as high as it can go if it will be too long. We shall see. I’m excited to try this.

Why would it not work with Oplux? Thank you for any explanation sir.

I haven't had an issue with my quick link slipping down on my tether, didn't like it on my foot tether. I always seemed to bang it into my rope man when moving up or down. For my foot loop I'm just using a sewn runner, 24" end to end. I've got to try repelling, it just looks fun!

Alright I am just taking the quick link out of my foot tether then and running a figure 8.

Oh man repelling is a game changer. When it is cold and dark at the end of the day it makes getting down that much easier and safer.

I hate quick links. Ive had too many weird drops when i start to rappel before it has all my weight on it. i just use a standard loop in the rope with a figure 8 on a bight now. i ordered a slyde. cant hurt for 9 bucks

From what i read the smaller 8mm rope, instead of cinching down and holding with friction could slip past itself. If that makes sense? I just took their word for it honestly. I will give it a try next time I'm out.

I just ordered one too.
I have Oplux, Rescue Tech, and Ultra-Tech 8mm ropes to try it on.
Also C-IV and Camo Elite 9mm ropes as well.
I hope that little sucker works as good for me as it does for @pse3 !

pse3, I see that you tied a bite in your tether and clipped it in your carabiner.
Is that kinda for redundancy for the Slyde?
Can you get an explanation and some pictures?

Seems like you forced ( :weary: ) a few of us guys into trying them out, so maybe you can help speed up our learning curve.

The c-iv and canyon elite have worked great for me. Not one slip with either. I think you're talking about the alpine butterfly? It is just for redundancy. Figured the tag end of the tether is just hanging there, might as well use it. I used to put a figure 8 on a bite on the end. I like the butterfly better. Allows me to move the knot closer to my hookup point for different tree sizes. I'll try to get a better video of just the slyde soon.
