Kong Slyde

I have a few PETZLs, they are really nice.
I like the red ring that lets you know when you're not screwed shut...

I do like the alpine butterfly on the tether, if for no other reason than to take up the standing end. Occasionally I'll pitch the standing end of the tether with my foot and it takes me a minute to figure out why I can't move my tether up.

This is an old thread but ive got a kong slyde in my "gear that i've ordered and haven't put to good use yet box". Has anyone had success using this device as a shock absorber on their one sticking tether? Not comfortable using my oplux with the slyde being out of spec but i have some other rope i can rig up that is in spec. Would like to get rid of the extra length of my screamer and sub in this kong slyde.

I am trying this for ascending and then I can’t drop when rappelling. It was from an old thread as well.

Do you have yours all tied up where you could take a picture to show how you would rappel and also use the shock absorption of the slyde?

I have been using the Slyde since I first came across this thread.
I have 5 tethers with Slydes on them that I keep in circulation.

The other 2 must be in a backpack or a saddle over in the corn crib?

If this was directed to me, here it goes.

I use this configuration for climbing, rappel configuration has to much friction. I love the sticht hitch but don’t like the ring next to the slyde. So I run the Schwabisch. It doesn’t break as easy under load but works good otherwise.

Then here is a series of 3 pics on switching to rappel mode. I do have to open the gate and slip rope in. I understand this a risk but the bridge is under load so there is no real way the slyde or bridge would slide out. This is an acceptable risk for me but may not be for you, just making you aware. The only thing to note is not every carabiner will work in this configuration because of using the smaller hole. I’m using a king argon, but the ergo or oval are 2 big. Also the slyde is not rated for 8mm but I am not using it in a way that matters. I am using it to take the heat and friction from rappelling.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the pics fellas. Crcusmonky, i like how you are using the slyde to rappel. That looks pretty slick. I looks like you dont use the slyde in a way to optimize the fall absorbing option. Phatkaw , how do you rappel? Different tether?

Yes not optimal for shock absorption. But neither is the static rope most of us are using.
