Linesman's Belt gadget....

Interesting thread. While there are many kinds and brands or rope "grabs" if you have a piece of equipment with teeth such as a ropeman, ascender or what ever you use, traditionally you needed to use a stiffer static line which is not good for making knots such as the Blakes Hitch. A traditional arborist rope is softer and great for knots but can not hold up to the teeth of equipment such as an ascender. Today manufacturers are selling "hybrid" ropes which can do both. They are supple enough to make and hold knots and made to run through mechanical devices. The Bandit rope that we use with the Aero Evo is a hybrid rope. For me 150' - 200' of rope is some $ so I choose hybrid rope for more climbing options.

1saddleguy,

Thanks for that.
Yes, my static line is very stiff.
I also have trouble with it slipping down the tree.
I am using 9mm line from NewTribe for my Blake's Hitch and it gets jammed on my 11mm Static Line.

Some time I will try some of that Bandit Rope.

In the meantime....I LOVE the Ropeman for my Lineman's belt but will keep using my Blake's Hitch and try to get better at using it.

I recently received the Aero Evo and found 1 hand operation of the linemans belt difficult with the blakes hitch. I purchased the Ropeman 1. I love it. 1-handed operation in both directions is a breeze. Thinking about putting one on my tree line as the BH tend to really tighten after leaning back to the point I have difficulty adjusting it. I am keeping the BH in the bridge.

In trying to find my sweet spot, I found greater comfort, switching back and forth between the tree line/ bridge and the lineman's belt. The tree line/bridge gave the best maneuverability with occasional discomfort; the LB gave no discomfort but was not as maneuverable.

I have been using a Petzl microcender for this application for 3 years but it is much heavier. By squeezing the ring/cam to the carabiner you can let slack out very easily. I use KMIII Max for my lanyard. I may check out one of those Ropemans.

Why can't I see some of the pics posted. I see some, but some just say image. I thought maybe they were posted wrong but then the next poster would say, "Nice pic."

I've tried out the ropeman 1 for the tree strap and it has been working great.

Not sure. Can you give me an example with a link and which post? What browser are you using? (I'll be hunting out of state this weekend, so I probably won't be able to look into this til next week).

Red thanks for the video but the demo at Turkey Swamp was way better after seeing your setup I like the Ropeman 1 on the tree strap and would use one of the web lineman belts that I have from HS instead of a rope lineman belt, the ropes always seem to have a tendency to slide down as soon as the least bit of slack is introduced to them, while the webbing for me anyway seems to stay put. There are some really slick setups here I can't wait to try them out!

Thanks,

Roger

I noticed that a lot of guys are taping there ropeman 1's with camo tape has anyone tried camo dipping them or asking the manufacturer to make one in OD green or black?

Roger

They aren't easy to tape due to the shape/contour and the moving parts.
I was more concerned with dampening potential noise than the shine or color.

I'm going to make a little cloth skirt to sit over it to block the shine.

I'm back to my custom tree strap right now though because I can hunt bigger trees with it.

What type of tape are you using and does it help with noise I can't remember RS's making any noise when it was connected to the rope bridge or are you talking about contact with the carabiner and the other metal parts in your setup? How do you like the lineman's belt with ropeman 1 as opposed to the Blane's hitch and does the Blakes hitch have any advantage over the ropeman 1 when used as a linemen's belt. Thanks

Roger

Thanks JSD I booked marked the site and thanks for the info on the blames hitch versus the rope man 1.

Roger

I use a Michocan hitch and a micro pulley for my linesmen belt/rope setup. It tends slack very well and grabs quite well all with one hand.

If anyone wants a brand new Ropeman 2, you can buy mine. I wanted to use it with my lineman belt and it's just not for me.

I just picked up one of these

I think it will make for easy operation on a rope.

After trying out the Ropeman 2, realizing it wouldn't work for my lineman belt, selling it in the classifieds and buying the Ropeman 1, I couldn't be happier. This is the first truly one-handed system I've found. It works perfectly! Thanks for the heads up!

Just ordered one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VK5IS4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It looks almost identical to the trophyline webbed lineman's belt which I love. My problem is that over the years the webbing is getting worn down and frayed from frequent contact with the tree. I'll let you guys know what I think of it and how close it is to the trophyline one. IMO this is the ultimate one handed adjustable lineman's belt.
