Live from saddlepalooza

There were a few people that asked for the weight of the stick contraption that @ckossuth and I had. I didn't have any answer other than somewhere betweeen 2 and 2.5 lbs (32 to 40oz). So I weighed it when I got home last night, dead on 2 lbs 3oz (35 oz).

Was that with the cam cleat.

The sticks that Carl and I had that were alike both had a post style attachment on it, my other two one sticks (both the 14" and the 18") had the cam cleats. I will be swapping out the custom button post on my platform style stick to a cam cleat to try. I'm going to bet that the weight will be the same or less. That bolt post on the stick you are referring to on mine is a grade 8, 5/16" carriage bolt with 2 lock nuts and 2 washers. I'm fairly certain that the cam cleat will weigh less than all that. I'll let you know for sure though.

Well I am late to the “live” thread but here are some pics I took. Since I’m apparently better at taking cell phone pics than killing pigs. Lol

Almost got the truck stuck but made it out OK, even with my 4WD not working.

Had a great time as usual. Looking forward to next year.

Just got home over an hour ago. No piggies for us this year again but it was a blast. 2nd year for us, good to see old faces and meet some new ones. I’m slowly putting names to faces, but some of you guys I still refer to by your saddlehunter name lol. Thanks to @g2outdoors and @Gudnyte for lending us guns. Saddlepalooza is a good way for us to bridge the gap between deer and turkey season. Of course, the highlight for my brother was winning the raffle for the Phantom setup. Thanks to Greg for putting it together again and for anyone else who had a hand in pulling off the venue change.
Edit: forgot about the monster shed I found.

Finally got back to Michigan after a side trip to FLA.

Had a great time at SaddlePalooza. I met hunters from at least 9 states and everyone that I met was super cool.

The good stuff:
My first time hunting pigs and I had a blast.
Watching guys like Carl and Squirrels demonstrate their technique/setup in person to get ideas on how I can improve my game.
Getting hands and butts and feet on some new products and some DIY ingenuity.
Campfire stories.

The bad stuff:
I did not bring home any bacon.
The mud.
The food. I figured by walking all day chasing pigs I could walk off some "holiday" lbs. But the food was so good I think I actually gained weight.

To anyone on the fence about going next year I would say go. I went this year not knowing anybody and knowing nothing about pig hunting and I really enjoyed myself. I will be going back next year. This is a very welcoming, friendly group that goes out of their way to make sure everyone has what they need to enjoy camp. Lot's of sharing and helping hands. Saddle hunters are good people.

Special thanks to @T.Clarke for sending along some extra guns that I was able to put to use. No worries, Tim. The barrels are just as clean as they were when you dropped them off.

I just swapped out the button post and strap daisy chain to a cam cleat and piece of amsteel. Essentially no weight change. New weight is 2lbs 2.3oz. So it cut .7 oz, less than an ounce. I love cam cleats, so easy to operate.

Sounds great. You could cut another 2lbs by sending it to me.

Keep an eye on the amsteel. I used it with the cam cleat on a previous project and the cleat scarred it up pretty good. I ended up changing to 6mm accessory cord and that has held up thru 2 seasons now.

Yep, I will. Easy enough to keep extra amsteel around and replace if needed. I do a full bury on my amsteel so it gives it a core. It bites better in the cam cleat that way.
