LIVE from the saddle 2023

You will be happy you used the 38 that way, this early, when you get to the elk woods. I know we talked about it but throw in all the squats, lunges and either stairs or box step up you can stomach too and you will be good to go.
Not to derail this thread but I have 2 downed trees at the bottom of our place. It’s only a few hundred yards away from the house but it’s steep enough you almost have to grab saplings to get back up it in one part. My plan is over the course of this spring & early summer is to cut all that down into firewood & pack it out & up the hill. Some of that type 2 fun!!

"Rutting bucks" in GA??

South Alabama. This guy just came in to 16 yards but from behind. Couldn’t get turned for the shot without spooking him.

Pretty sure I just filled my last doe tag, and tagged out for the first time ever, at 5 yards broadside. Coyotes chased a nice buck and about a dozen does towards me, and it happened super fast. Barely got my bow up but the very last doe stopped for me just long enough. Arrow is sitting in the dirt, but yotes are still about. Gunna keep my wits and get on her trail after a 45-60m wait.

That's the kind of work I like to do!!!

Let things die down a little bit and try to lip squeek one of those coyotes to you...... may get two good kills tonight!!!

And how are you hunting? Its 8 degrees right now where I'm at in WNY. You're about 2 hours away to the west of me laterally. You guys can't be much warmer but maybe you're in southern OH?

Cuz I was hungry for venison and they’ve been moving in the middle of the day. It’s 14 feels like 5 right now lol. But I’m warm in my gamehide. I was only in the stand for 40m!

Weeeeeelllll…dunno how it’s even possible at 5 yds, but she must have ducked my string. No blood on arrow, hair at site of shot but no blood, then sparse teeny tiny drips for about 20 yds, then nothing. Tracks led into open field, no blood on her direction of travel and no deer laying in/around the field. We’re thinking I grazed her back and she dropped a little blood down her leg because the drops were right in her tracks. I guess at that range missing high is more than likely, even dialed in as I am, and we don’t think the wound was mortal so I am confident she’s not suffering through a horrid death right now. It’s definitely taking some wind out of my sails. Felt perfect at the time, thought I saw a hole in her chest, but apparently not.

How high up were you? If you're at 20' shooting at 5 yards, that's almost straight down and it's easy to shoot high.

Very few folks practice that shot.

I did it years ago on an 8 point. I was up at 20' or 25' in a climber. He came in directly under me chasing a doe. Put the 20 pin on him and let'er fly right over his back. Painful lesson.
I wish I had time to hit my Tactacam but the whole situation only lasted 6-7 seconds. In hindsight, I’m sure I was amped and rushed the shot even though it felt great when it happened. Would have loved to confirm with video.

Entry and exit along with what it hit. Thus continues the streak of all my bow kills falling in sight. I’ve hit a few that have gone unrecovered, 2 forward and one back and missed a few as well. I’ve also killed one with a single bevel, qad exodus and sevr 1.5 this year now. Single bevel was only one that didn’t pass through but it was a dumb shot that I shouldn’t have taken that worked out.

Is that deer wearing an orange collar? Did you check the tags for the owner's information? :p
