LIVE from the saddle 2023

Shot a doe at 15 yards at my 5 o’clock position. Got her gutted and got back in the tree and had a really nice buck about 300 yards away locked down with a different doe off our property. Had seen him earlier pushing her and some others around. Tried to call as best I could but he wasn’t interested in anything but that doe. My brother will be there in the morning to try and get a crack if he’s still around. I may get out there but don’t really need to shoot another one.

75 deg rolling in to the woods today after a long two weeks at work. Since that darn ground hog swore it was still winter I thought I’d be funny and scout/hunt from my teva sandals in February. I made sure to grab my thermacell. I forgot to put the thermacell in my bag.. needless to say, the mosquitoes are out and I played myself lol. I did have a blast tromping through the woods. I felt like a kid just exploring. It was much needed. C6E9B90D-AC48-4D6F-A0A8-AB8A1D484EAD.jpeg

View attachment 81440 not how I planned to set up in this tree but it was tiny tiny and leaning more than I expected. Deer may come in right behind me for a drop shot. These does best not be slipping.
I can't get over sandals in February :tearsofjoy: . . . its been way warmer than usual here but there's still 8" of snow on the ground.

I hunted March 28th or 29th last year and had a shooter 10 come by still sporting his rack. At that time in the year it is does only in VA, that is why he got a pass. By March 28th is late to still have antlers.

Hmm. My brother lives in Virginia... team 2 could use 5 more points. Maybe I should pay him and his vegan girlfriend a visit :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

( wish I were kidding. She's vegan. We haven't met yet :tearsofjoy:)

Since you brought it up, they should be dropping/dropped by now right? I've got 3 pictures with antlers in the last week
I'm sure it varies where you live. Here in MD the majority are still carrying. Should start to drop a lot within the next 2 weeks

I was turkey hunting last year in Alabama and had this guy come by pretty close on April 8th. I don’t really know when the majority drop down there but it definitely seems to be later.

Scouted a lot of land and jumped not one deer so I don’t know where they all went. I decided to take the canoe out this afternoon but the water wasn’t but about 6 inches and it whooped me. I tried to get out but I kept sinking. Running out of time I found the closest bank I could walk to and climbed a tree. Not very hopeful but enjoying my last couple sits. 0CF3196C-85D3-46DE-9F9F-D08DA2C06991.jpeg
