LIVE from the saddle 2023

Well here we are. First day of PA rifle. Im genuinely burnt out, and had very little desire to get on stand, despite the big 10 and 9 in daylight yesterday where I'm at. I always sit with my father for rifle as it's something I cherish above all else. by myself today and want it over with.
This is my modus operandi today at the first legal buck I see. Good luck to all

Crazy that it's your first day of rifle when tomorrow is our last day. I sat yesterday over a couple scrapes and some rubs, but no sightings. I had the same Danny DeVito mentality. It was chilly in the low 20s, especially when I dropped one of my ArticShields. Good luck out there.

That's that. Not my biggest, but that's yet another public land buck and this season kicked my butt. Finally I can relax View attachment 95698
You’ve been hard after em. Congrats on W. From the highs to lows, from stabbing bears to missing cell came 10 pts, from losing expensive broadheads to seasonal Starbucks drink runs and everything in between, we’ve truly enjoyed every part of it. Thanks for taking us along.

4 does 1 yearling 1 fawn moved through at about 40-50 yards. Not mad about seeing deer on the first 3 sits of the year but I need a few to swing closer by. Both the buck last night and these does were both headed the same direction on this piece. I need to scout it when I get down and see if there is a hotter feed tree south of me. It could also be north of me and they’re going back to bed in the swamp thicket after eating last night/early morning.… hmm

A chilly 22° on PA rifle opener. This year I decided not to walk deep and stuck closer to the parking lot. Was quickly reminded why I do go far usually. Have another orangie not 100 yards from me. He saw me climbing and everything and still sat right down. I know it’s public land and he has as much right to be here as me, but c’mon at least go over the knob out of sight.

One came in at grey light but couldn’t see it. If it’s a buck I’m hoping it will get up to move around a little bit. Not sensing any rutting action either.

He must be thinking if that guy will climb a tree he must know something I don't! He's got a Booner cornered over there! I've never understood the mentality of wanting to be that close to another hunter.
In the south people will climb down and try to beat yo a** if you pull stuff like that. Angry hateful hunters, it’s awful. Orange army Hunters are often times rednecks and white trash and they can be meaner than hell. If you see someone they’re gonna be pissed even if you back out. I avoid people at all costs.

100% what I have seen. I avoid other hunters like the plague. Luckily you can generally count on their laziness to get away from them.

Trouble is I actually love this spot. I’m in a corner backed up against private land with good topographic funnels and a pine grove making a transition right on the property line. Saw a doe get bumped by a third hunter and go into the pines where she’s been snorting. The orange joker went for a walk and came right back within an hour. I might have to leave because I think any deer will spook seeing him even though I could probably see them first.
