You have the prussic as a backup? I’d ditch the prussic & tie off the tag end of your tether above the RM if your looking for piece of mind….View attachment 79890View attachment 79891
Second hunt using a RM1 and I gotta say, I don’t think I like this on my tether at all. I think I trust it, but obviously I don’t because my prusik is set 6-8” below it. I may try on LB instead, and maybe it’d be more comfortable if I was in my saddle platform as opposed to this old LW hang-on, but this is the tree I want today. jury’s still out on this thing. I just don’t see it being idiot proof, and unfortunately that’s what I need.
Sitting between a couple of ag fields, a small food plot that’s dried up by now, and a small pond that’s thawing as I type. Trynna fill my last grocery tag for the year and make up for some meat that spoiled due to a long tracking job on a warm day. Hoping to slot a nice nanny while she’s transitioning cover as the day warms up. They usually come through at daybreak or stay in the big fields until the warmer temps turn over from the frozen night.
There are about 95 squirrels having it out with each other, but I only have one small game arrow and I want to use it on a bunny I’ve been scoping.
I do have the tag end clipped into my carabiner, but that’s more for slack management. I need a bit of adjustability in this tree but I will try that in my mission platform if I don’t tag out this morning. Thanks! You have the prussic as a backup? I don’t really adjust it once I’m set, unless I stand but for the most part it’s the same. Did you adjust your prussic a lot??I think the RM1 is “forcing” me to fiddle too much. I don’t like the number of ways I feel like I can fubar an otherwise ordinary movement.
Not generally except in this particular tree. That’s why I’m wondering if it’s the treestand vs platform. I’ll have to take it up for some target practice in my platform. I’ll admit, a lot of my nervousness probably stems from how easily the catch is released, and how hard the rope has been pinched in the spot where the teeth are. It’s different than the look of squeezed rope from a prusik, more focused and flattened than “strangled”. That’s not for nothin’, but it threw me off.I don’t really adjust it once I’m set, unless I stand but for the most part it’s the same. Did you adjust your prussic a lot??

As long as you’re not putting slack in the ropeman I don’t think you have a whole lot to worry about. That pinch is what’s holding your butt up there so it’s a good thing. And being on a platform vs a stand is a lot different in my opinion. It forces you further away from the tree and it changes up the geometry. You may need to move tether up or down, as well as shorten or lengthen bridge to find the spot that feels comfortable. Each stand type required a different tether and bridge combo in my experience. Good luck, don’t get busted piddling with your tether though. HahaNot generally except in this particular tree. That’s why I’m wondering if it’s the treestand vs platform. Some Ropeman1 tips:
1. Put the prusik above the RM. If the RM fails or cuts the rope, the prusik will still catch you.
2. Cut the wire release handle off and replace it with a split ring and a paracord loop. This makes the release easier to see and easier to use with gloves on.

3. With prusik above the RM, you can easily adjust up by pulling the loose end of the rope upward. The RM tends the prusik.

4. You can release both pieces with one hand to adjust down. Run your finger through the paracord loop as you reach up to tend the prusik. If you make the loop the right size, the RM will release just as you grab the prusik to slide it down. If you panic for some reason, just let go of both and they will both grab.

Thanks for all the feedback! Gunna try this setup next hunt. Can’t believe I never thought to tend prusik with RM.Some Ropeman1 tips:

Truth. I definitely had to lower my connection drastically to accommodate the geometry. As long as you’re not putting slack in the ropeman I don’t think you have a whole lot to worry about. One last tip:
I started using a second prusik above my main connection as a "stopper knot" for my rappel rope tether. In addition to keeping the girth hitch from falling when slacked, the prusik gives you a helpful grab handle for adjustments. Grab with your left hand to stabilize while you adjust the RM with your right.

Dang your squirrels rut late. Ours seem to rut in December.First time seeing two squirrels have adult relations in a tree next to me. That was one time to many for my tastes.
Noticed babies/juvies making their own nests in late September, so how does that timing stack up? Never paid attention to squirrel rutting before.Dang your squirrels rut late. Ours seem to rut in December.
