LIVE from the saddle 2023

Sadly I will be dodging rain, working, events, and Church. These all mess with the cool mornings. Maybe some evenings I can get in a hunt or two. Maybe take off half day Monday.

That’s what she used to say when they were home. Now she questions if I like hunting more than her….I told her don’t ask questions she doesn’t want answers to

I tell mine the same thing every friday afternoon of season...Love you, I'll be back before work Monday.

I hunted yesterday morning over a giant red oak with good feed sign under it. Four hours and nothing. I sort of thought it was an evening spot anyway since this tree is about 40 yards from where I had that 120's 8 pointer at 10 yards on the 4th of October last year at about 6:15 pm. I believe he survived and I'm sort of looking for him in there again this year. I moved over to the other giant red for the evening sit after a few hours out scouting for more feed trees. Another four hour sit until dark produced only a very large coyote sighting and a squirrel. 2TC'd for the morning and evening hunts. The climbs went well but I can tell this morning that I am not yet in saddle shape. I'm feeling it a little.

Nice to see someone wearing a proper bowhunting hat.

Good to be back out in the tree. More of an observation night than anything. Cold front comes through late tomorrow night, so wanted to get the first sit out of the way. Glad I did as I was a little disorganized getting set

Doe deer with two fawns, wanted her bad. Could’ve shot either fawn. Momma got to 15 yds on the wrong side of the tree. Didn’t smell me and I was being very still but she eventually just looked right into my soul and blew. I’m in a saddle/hang-on today and I really wish I was using my Trophyline platform instead. Side pressure is not a thing in a conventional stand and it just cost me a chip shot at an angle that I could have made from a smaller platform, while waiting for her to get to a better angle.

Update/edit: I yanked that stand (LW Assault) and left room for another couple of screw-ins. It’s a great stand for many situations but I’ll be using my trophyline in this tree from now on. It opens up at least 3 more shooting lanes. Can’t believe I waited this long to do that.
