LIVE from the saddle 2023

I have the next two weeks off, so hopefully I'll have a success story to post here sooner than later! Reading all of these stories and seeing these pics just has me itching to get back out into the woods. There's been a lot of weekend pressure on the public around me, so I'm excited to get out in the middle of the week too.

Well I'm bailing. Got down out of there at 10, and decided to move to the otherside of the mtn because of these brutal swirling winds. Even on the otherside they were swirling like crazy.
This was definitely the nuttiest day this year wind wise. Usually NW is pretty consistent

So, every year it seems I miss my first shot at a deer.

Well, I didn't miss the Doe at last light, but did miss my mark (30yds).

First year in a saddle and did practice, but not really well enough I guess.

Had a decent Doe, about 100# maybe, and figured what the hey, freezer meat. As I was drawling back, she spots me. I held half draw for a few seconds, figured she already seen me, so went full draw. I had a sapling in the way and leaned out a little further than what I felt good with, put the pin just behind her shoulder as she stared at me, released the arrow and WHOP...that didn't sound good.

She runs full tilt off into the thicket and I never hear her crash.

I got down after about 15-20 minutes and check my arrow...only the broadhead was bloody with hair. S.O.B.

I hit her right on the shoulder I guess...string jump maybe ? No clue. I start looking for blood just in case....not a drop.

At least it wasn't the Buck.

This is the best spot I have. So tough to hunt though. I tucked back in the hollies today....rain and I didn't feel like climbing a wet tree. Good observation hunt though. I saw three, the closest was a smallish six.
One the other side of that strip of holly trees is where it's at. You cant tell, but there are a few openings where i can watch deer move back and forth. Few tree choices and the ones there are looking right down at the canopy. I'm eying the squiggly one straight ahead. I have an old preset in the clump of trees to the right as well.

Skullworks Army in full effect this morning @jcam1841
Miss November is out for S’s & G’s. Bucks have been moving all week, but we’re not picky if a doe stomps through. I just hope the bucks around the property like skinny girls enough to check her out within 20 yds.
Last weekend for turkeys, they’re on the menu. Rabbits are for sure on the menu. If all I see are squirrels, I’m letting the judo points fly.
Wind is perfect atm, fingers crossed.
Today feels like a classic November killing day. LFG boys. Stack ‘em.

Decent 8pt came by an hour ago at 60 yds. Didn’t stop but wasn’t in a hurry, then I heard him make a rub to my SW and that was that.
Then this guy offered me a shot at 19:7EFACAD0-8EA3-4345-8775-9989DCF1EBD9.jpeghe’s a handsome 3YO “unicorn”. His left side has a little spike but I can’t tell if it’s his whole antler or a broken shard. He is still within 100 yds of me. Here he is yesterday by another preset:

I keep jokingly telling the neighbor he’s getting an arrow, but if that left side is a legit spike I might just release one. For sure he’s on the hit list next year if he survives and throws another outstanding unicorn side. If it’s broken I’m letting him walk.
