LIVE from the saddle 2023

Wellll, rain is suppose to come in tomorrow and wind shifted to out of the SE. I decided to attack a spot from the north and slip in on the north side of bedding. After fighting through greenbriar, thorns and privot I realize there’s no good tree where I need to be. I climb the next closest thing. It ate my lunch. It had a Bunch of limbs in the way and way entirely too big. Plus poison oak. Finally made it set up at 3:30 and couldn’t move because a limb in my face. Climbed up and around another. Sometimes stuff falls a part trying to set up. This was one of those times. Also, just spooked a baby buck while reaching for my bow lol. He didn’t blow though so there’s still a chance. It warmed up and I forgot my thermacell so I’m also getting eaten alive SOS.

Didn’t have my bow pulled up before the first deer came through! Just had to wait and watch lol awesome evening for a sit though, don’t see a lot of eastern winds.
Dude! Is that a dead tree you’re set up in? I’m gonna call you Infalt!

No dude...a big buck. I had the wind so I guess he seen movement and took off 40-50 yds behind some palmettos. I couldn't get the gun up fast enough. I sat on the ground for an hour and then shimmied up a tree. A doe came out right where the buck disappeared later as the sun started to fade. Then it started raining. Then a 2nd came out and followed the same path as the first. Nice broadside at 60yds. Then a 3rd came out on the same trail as the first 2....then I couldn't see anymore. Dang it

that sucks man. Hopefully you can turn the Intel/experience into success before time runs out the way your hunts are structured. Do you guys have antlered/antlerless only hunts like some states do?

Gun season opens tomorrow. Last day to fill my management doe tag, and this guy shows up to the area I was going to hunt 5min after I made a racket getting into THIS tree. I’m glad I didn’t go down there, because I definitely would have bumped him. Instead, I’ve done two sparring sequences and I’m holding off on my pop tarts…

That's that. Not my biggest, but that's yet another public land buck and this season kicked my butt. Finally I can relax View attachment 95698

I already posted this in another thread but it applies to @bigmike23 who’s done nothing but earn every millimeter of antler and venison on that beautiful buck. Congrats my man!

Nice buck @bigmike23! You’ve been pounding hard all season! Congrats! What was your setup? Reasoning for the location, etc. Thanks for sharing!
On top of a remote Mtn. It's hard to hunt because there no good access, wind swirls alot. But it's where all deer get pushed to from the orange army and its where I had the giant 9 and big 10 on cam the last week. It's more a rifle location. Mr Roy weatherbys favorite cartridge the 257 smashed him
