LIVE from the saddle 2023

Cover is getting sparse up in all of the trees here. Tried to climb something bigger but my foot tether didn’t have enough rope below my friction knot for my liking. At least this one has a few branches to break up my outline. New-ish spot for me with lots of trails and tracks even since yesterday.

had a small 4 pt walk in at 15 yards but I was looking for does. Two does came though but 50-150 yards. i left my rope and platform in the tree and will go back again tomorrow evening.

It’s been a cluster of a morning. Started at a tree I’ve never sat, but scouted and marked on OnX two years ago. Get there this morning and the trunk is just barely too big for my straps. No big deal I’ll just double up and only use two sticks. I’ll be low but whatever. Get up, and my lone platform strap was too short as well. (Duh). Moral of the story is I cannot trust two years ago Bradley and his OnX waypoints. That was back when I knew nothing about saddle hunting. Which is hard to believe because I still know nothing about saddle hunting.

Anywho, moved to another tree and by some miracle got set up just shortly after shooting light. It’s been raining non stop for two days. The rain has stopped this morning but still foggy and dreary.

33° and slight NW wind. Western Kansas. Hoping there’s a deer out here as dumb as me.

Last sit of NH bow season. Didnt see much fot tracks on way in but had couple smaller buck pics on trail cam 4 or 5 days ago near sit. Smelled deer on way in and got another wiff just a bit ago so got in close but maybe not so close to bump them. Problem is they are straight upwind of me so not good odds to come this way.Nice day, just nice t be out here.

Got into the woods almost an hour before legal light, took me 5m to find my tree, and I spent the remaining time climbing and practicing ALL of my curse words (every language I know them in) that I had the genius idea to put this preset in a :nomouth:-ing hickory tree :triumph:. Now it’s a mere 4m before light and I just got settled. I’m right up close to bedding on a doe superhighway so I’m hoping to slot a whitetail from it this morning so I can move these screw steps to a better trunk.

Climbed only about 15ft up a big ole oak this morning. I had seen a good number of does and small bucks in here a few weeks back, it’s the first time I’ve returned in a few weeks. I pushed in a little farther trying to get closer to the main trail for a shot. It’s suppose to be overcast and windy today. We will see what the deer do. A82C0BFE-53EF-41EB-A8B6-9E18D3459523.jpeg

Doe came in really fast with a fawn. Of course it was behind me where I came in from instead of the deeper trail that I am on. She stopped parallel with me at 25 yards and waited trying to figure the scent out. The wind shifted and off they went. No blowing but she new what was up. Haha

Turkeys in trees all around me. Worth the early wake up and arboreal gymnastics.

I'll ask if nobody else will - What is that green thing attached to your bridge? I've spent the last 2 days trying to figure it out.

Was out this am with the ML in the pac seat on public found a killer creek crossing and did some scouting after a few hours of overlooking the crossing. Hurried back with the ESE wind today to a preset spot on private I only hung in once this season. Wind was perfect got all settled in…… two antlerless deer came through at about 20 minutes before last light. I say antlerless because I’m quite certain they were both button bucks. One had somewhat noticeable nubs the other seemed to have something there but not sure. Interestingly enough they both rub urinated within a few minutes of each other. Nothing else came through.
