Late afternoon hunt after shenanigans this morning. Set up in a large two trunk tree on a swamp edge and pine/privet. Can’t seem to find the rut action I expect this time of year. Found what appear to be a milkweed of some kind. Only the second time I’ve seen one and the second of this year.

Well i got an arrow in him, buddy brought his drone so i know where he is bedding, donno where i hit him, about 5yd shot with a 30yd pin. Missed him last sunday same spot. Nice 9pt. edit- just checked my pin at that distance, hit good on the target my feet were 30ft, so angled hard, donno he didn't take off, was moving slow and twitching his tail, I might still get him

I went out and hunted another one of my primary scrape areas today. I slipped in and set up (successfully I might add) about 25 feet up in a pine. I timed it perfectly. I spent a good amount of time deciding one which one of three trees to climb, and as soon as I got set up, I heard tipping. A doe came in 3 minutes after I settled in. It was that close. She came in, milled around and eased off. She had no idea I was there.

Aside from that, it was pretty uneventful. The sign is in there and I'll be back. I looked at my notes and on December 27th 2020 I missed a nice 8 point in that same spot. I might try and be back there on the 27th.

Any more follow up?

we went in with a dog and a drone, couldn't locate him. there is a property with horse stables that I don't have access to/ couldn't fly over that I think he went on. we searched as close to it as we could without trying to piss them off ( a lot of people/horses) I had video of him that morning when he was bedded and he wasn't acting like he was struggling. there were does near him and all his attention was on them by the way he was looking, he wasn't panting or acting uncomfortable and I couldn't see his wound, he was laying on it. My buddy is going to fly it 1 more time xmas to see if we can't locate him where the does are bedded. I was 30ft up tree at my feet and he wasn't more than 5yds so it was a steep angle, possible I raked his side.

Fun morning at camp. Couldn’t live with myself sitting in a shooting house so went and found briars to make myself miserable. Had a shot on 4pt but trying to be considerate of club. Found some scrapes and an area in pines with four buck scats. Put some trail cameras out and scouting midday. Had a big bucks tracks coming out the trail to the field I was going to originally this morning, my try my luck off of it.

Had this unit 30 yards away this evening and it was too dark to see it in the scope…. I could see it in the binos but when I put the gun up I couldn’t make it out. Been hunting this deer all season long. My camera took this pic when he was in front of me and I couldn’t freaking see it…

I was astonished that I was the only car at the lot at 5a, and equally surprised I didn’t hear anyone popping gravel on my walk back, but I’m not alone: heard a few shots far off earlier and one well within 200yards just minutes ago. I had thought of climbing down to scout thru midday but I may opt to stay in my thick vines and only adjust a little

Wife texted me at work and said it’s gonna rain tomorrow you need to go hunt so I left work and hit the woods late. Climbed the tree and got set up at 3:30 and 3:45 had nice 8pt come in to about 35 yards. I needed him to go 5-10 yards further past some thick stuff to have a shot. Hit some soft grunts and doe bleat but couldn’t get him to commit. He swung around me wide. Got to watch him work a tree for a few minutes. What a blast.

4 bucks ran past me for whatever reason, last one was a no question shooter. This guy was 30 seconds behind the first group. No buck tag, or this fellas picture would have been of a different sort.

30 degree morning. Trying out some alpaca socks that were a Christmas gift. Zero insulation boots, toes were chilly, but not uncomfortable.

Only home for two days between the holidays but had to get out. Perfect weather and wind. Now just need the deer to cooperate. Looking for a second doe this year. The tracks in the snow say they have been here in the past couple days but the camera says otherwise.

Definitely is I'm hunting public right off a farm field. Unfortunately they came put 130 yards to my right into the field. Was perfect setup and was ready they just came up another section into the field. I'm going to keep hitting this spot. So much scat on the ground and trails beat in.
