Lone Wolf Custom Gear Kuhnert Ambush Bent bolt/Fix

Just got this platform today. I’m very impressed with the workmanship and the stand itself seems very stout! However, This is a result of my first go. It happened with my issued strap that came with the platform. I’m 6’3” and weigh 223. I simply set the platform on to the tree as you would any stand and stepped onto the platform and the original bolt that acts as a Versa Button bent pretty severely. I’m assuming it’s because very little of the bolt is supporting the tension of the straps and/or rope. (I would be interested to know if this is occurring with guys and gals who have had the sticks-If they are suffering the same issue concerning the original bolt). This is how I decided to go in order to fix it. Please let me know your thoughts and your opinions on the fix?

Pic above is me attaching my Sterling Flex 8mm Rope after it had already bent with the issued strap and before the fix.

How did you access the nut from the original bolt?

$300 and bolts bend on first time would definitely not drilling be drilling through it. For the price they want to charge i would expect that platform to just about hang itself in the tree for me, much less at least have a strong enough bolt. Would be sending back or asking for a replacement. I’ll stick with my ridge runner

I agree. It isn’t something you bought at a yard sale for $10.

If you folks are ordering from DanO you might want to confirm that the bolt is long enough. I took a bolt off my old LW stick along with aluminum “Versa Button” from DanO and it was too short. The Ambush post is almost 1 1/4” I believe. Not home right now to measure. I would also like to order another aluminum button from DanO. Hopefully he can source a longer bolt. I’m actually much happier with the button. No indication of flex with the modification. Still folds up just as flat! I’m sure that kept as is and with original bolt the hole in the post would eventually wallow out.

He sells a specific bolt for LW-length bolt replacements

Interesting. My sticks had the same issue, but not as bad. I was less than impressed with the bolts.

Curious, what do you guys weigh?
Your post made me think of this. Lol.

I’ve been told they already have replacements ready based on some issues with the stands and sticks. The bolts they used passed stress tests. Sounds like they may also be rethinking the design - maybe something like the original versa button? Looks like the one in the photo above is similar to the buttons used on the XOP stands.

Sure! I’m afraid you might be facing the same issue with the bolt itself-I believe they used a grade 8 bolt originally....Just doesn’t seem like enough support for the bolt-Seems to me like it has to imbed further into the post. I think the bigger issue over time is also that there is so much pressure on just the flat front facing surface-I’m scared it would wallow out with some deformation. So far drilling through and putting a grade 8 bolt and Versa on the post I have yet to make out any give or flex and seems much stronger.

I bet this is why the price jumped $20 that last week. They knew this would happen
