Lone Wolf Custom Gear Kuhnert Ambush Bent bolt/Fix

A recall would be necessary if it were something not easily fixed.. fortunately, I can fit a $3 bolt pretty easily. Repairing a cast platform that broke... not so much.
I don’t disagree about the ease of repair but that’s not the point. If you’re standing on the thing at height and it fails does it really matter how easy it is to fix once you climb down? I’m not saying there should be a recall. It wouldn’t make much sense to do so. It is the same risk though whether it is a bolt failure, cast platform, strap failure etc. I think @DanO alumibutton would look real good there. I also think drilling all the way through would be a good Idea.

I won’t be surprised if my Dano order comes at the same time as the platform...... I’ll see how it shakes out w/LWCG (I’m not thrilled about modding a brand new product b/c of hardware issues) I can’t say I wouldn’t have modded it anyway either.

In this picture, are both ends of the rope hooked onto the versa button? It looks like only one side in this pic.

Yes both are attached or looped around the bolt as you would do with any stand or platform with strap or rope.

I’m just super excited over the options available compared to just a few years ago.
Over 10 saddles depending on what you consider a legitimate saddle and platforms from as small as a squirrel step up to the ambush and several choices in between. It’s a little annoying that any of the purpose built gear needs any modifications but it’s the world we live in but will only get better with competition in this market.

Not sure this is the appropriate diagram but it makes sense to me. After playing around with the stand and easily drilling a hole through the post and using a grade 8 bolt I see no indication that the button/bolt will bend like it did. Unfortunately I just don’t see simply swapping out a bolt will make any difference. I think there is no choice but to drill through and when you do drill through-there invariably will be more material supporting the bolt.

The bigger concern might be if the post can handle any side pressure or twisting pressure from side loading after removing the material to put the bolt all the way through. Being it was tested without a through wall hole it may change the characteristics.

I would be leery and definitely test at grade before hiking out into the wood climbing a tree and then the post breaking in two because I side loaded a modified stand post.

Just my .02 I didn't order one and probably wont but I don't want to see anybody get hurt or worse trying to make a mod work. Not saying that I doubt the fix just saying to test it thoroughly at grade for your sake and everyone else's.

I really don't want to drill through my post. Anyone either swap out for a DanO button and bolt or simply leave it stock and NOT have issues?

Copied/pasted from another thread... wish we could consolidate... I'm getting nothing done at work today BTW.

I put mine on a couple of trees briefly on my lunch hour. I had no issues with the bolt bending. I did, however with knowledge of these threads, make sure the loops were pushed as close to the post as possible.
It takes quite a bit of effort to cam that on a big tree with the outer tooth engaging the tree... and the larger platform size adds more leverage where I can see the bolt being an issue. I had more success with the strap a tad loose before camming.
More to come.

I am going to try just doing a dano button with stock length bolt. But want get both items until Saturday more than likely.

Here’s mine. It essentially came already bent/at an angle. The question I guess is will the bolt break. This is beyond frustrating for a product that’s release was already frustrating enough.

I find the command to not modify pretty ironic.

The bolt being a socket head is most likely a grade 8, biggest problem is it's a 1/4-20,realy too small for the stress. I put 3 nuts on mine and locked to each other against the post, put the pressure to it has not bent might get by till they come up with a fix.

Anyone email them about this and actually get a response?

Just received mine about an hour ago. Planning on calling and doing a return

Well beast button works well.

Another thing I have noticed after messing around with it a bit outside is they didn’t get the spacers correct on the post and I was getting some wiggle and pop.

I also am not really sure how to properly cam this thing over.

Overall I think it’s a nice platform.
