LWCG Ambush Platform

Prolly cuz they waited til the end of the season, only a week of bow left here in NY. Plus I bet a lot of guys are tagged out. Im sure there will be more options available by next season.
I wish being tagged out would've prevented me from buying. Bring on the late season!!

Do a lot of saddle hunters actually stand? We normally categorize ourselves into "sitters" and "leaners." I don't think I ever actually stood on my DIY scooter platform at all last year and not yet this year. Its a tad smaller than the Predator I believe. Why stand when you can lean? Seems like you introduce slack into the system when you do unless you constantly adjust your tether. When I need a change I sit for a bit and then back to leaning. I guess I don't see the point of a bigger platform - enlighten me.

Here is also a huge reason I want a larger platform. It’ll give me more options and shooting opportunities.

Mine should be here tomorrow. I hope it looks better than the stand of there’s I had.

Try getting a pair of size 14 alpha burlys side by side on one of those.

Why is it that I can get an XOP air raid for $140 and a substantially smaller platform is $180(predator)? I suspect that a cast aluminum platform could be sub $100 but why would they price it like that when we will obviously pay much more... Myself included

That's my question - why do people need to stand? I understand on occasion when shifting for a shot or something, but while hunting I never stand. I'm either leaning with my heels on the edge or I'm sitting. I wear size 13. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the platform, just trying to understand the different ways we all hunt.

I don’t stand. I am probably 50/50 sit lean. I don’t know how a larger platform will be. I prefer a ring of steps myself. Gonna give this a try anyway. I thought my predator was a bit small to move around on... I figure you can probably turn easier for a weak side shot with the bigger platform?

I like the ROS and I like the predator but I love my assassin. The biggest advantage is that I can stand up to shoot from 5 to 1. My biggest gripe with the predator was the size. Biggest gripe with ROS was trying to shoot to my weak side without walking around the tree. If deer come in from my right I can adjust my bridge so I can stand and make the shots. Yes I’m introducing some slack into the system. Not good but not the end of the world it’s just enough to stand and turn. I doubt anyone actually stands while they hunt rather they stand when they have to to make a shot. Even if I dont have the time to adjust my bridge to stand the larger platform just gives me the peace of mind to turn and make the shot. I’m new to saddle hunting so take it with a grain of salt and I may switch it up but right now I am digging my fleece saddle and Assassin.

I stand a lot, just find it comfortable. In the ideal tree where I can do all three, I'd say I 50% lean, 30% stand, 20% sit

There are times when standing just makes sense based on the tree, shot angle, etc. It's nice to have it as an option. Also, I found the larger platform (Assassin) to simply be more comfortable than the Predator and provides a greater sense of stability/safety.
Here in Oklahoma you rarely find the perfect tree that's straight and without crazy limbs everywhere. Because of this the more options the better.

XOP products are made in China, they could probably sell it for $75 and make a killing haha

IMHO there is a price that LWCG has to sell their products at to remain a viable company in lieu of the costs to bring those products to market. What similar products offered by other companies sell for is surely part of their calculus, but its not the only determinant. There's an old accounting joke, we lose money on every sale, but make it up in volume... No company can stay around long with that business model.

I'm guessing LWCG is bootstrapping each run with the proceeds of the prior run as opposed to some more elaborate price/availaibility/competitor marketing strategy. I haven't researched it either, but I suspect they farm out the manufacturing too. So they have less control over per unit cost other than shopping around or by ordering higher quantities. Either way I doubt any of the founders are eye balling summer homes on the Mediterranean from the sale of this stuff.

In terms of the platform itself, its bigger and heavier than what we have now. So there isn't any break through technology going on here. Maybe their strategy is to appeal to conventional lock-on and climber users looking to try saddle hunting. In that context their platform is roughly half the weight and size of what these users are used to so the transition is easier.

I would confess there are times when I wish my predator platform was bigger, but generally that's only when I'm perched high in the tree already. Otherwise I want it lighter and smaller. :)
I doubt very much LWCG is going to jeopardize their bread and butter products for the K Ambush. From their point of view they will maintain a low manufacturing supply geared towards saddle hunter. Saddle hunters are a specialized vertical market for them. I suspect the K Ambush could be short lived at best

Hey guys, just saw that a guy on the facebook page had his versa button/bolt bend on his brand new ambush. He replaced it with a longer grade 8 bolt but something that sounds concerning.

This has happened on 2 of them now. Just read it on another thread
