What about these, I am planning on getting a pair, they are flexible sole, light, and waterproof . And our grandfather's probably hunted in similar pairs for decades.

I use Salomon Ultra X Mid GTX…how’s that for a name? Always hunt in hiking boots early season. These are Comfy, reasonable at $150, quiet, waterproof, easy to climb tree, but low cut, so no stream crossing. They were the most comfortable in my size at EMS, that was my criteria. I have no Montana sheep hunts in my future, so i don’t need those Overkill boots everyone gets. I bought when my 8 year old scarpas blew out this summer, so i had to emergency buy, and kind of lucked out. They are more like running shoes than boots, so i expect they to get shredded within 3 years, but OK with that. I‘m only getting out 8-10 times a year, so works for me. I’m planning my first all day set this saturday, and will go with these and smart wool socks, and some artic shields i picked up. Will be my first set on the predator XL this season, found ROS great for up to 4 hours.

These are fairly expensive as well but are exactly what you’re looking for I think. I wore mine all season and they worked out well after replacing the insole in them.

I just got an email from them saying they're supposed to be coming out with a new version with the same tread as their outlander boot soon. The boulders are one of the most comfortable boots I've owned, but the tread is not great.

I have similar concerns. As of now, I’m pretty much able to answer “nah, I’ve had these boots for a while.” No such chance with any of the true minimalist boots.

Function over form. I left the fashion police behind in high school where they belong. I see folks walking around looking like they’re constantly trying to hold in a giant turd with their clothes tight and shoes uncomfortable. I’d rather walk around in shoes that fit the physiological function of my body over the fashion and fit of modern society. I bet your wife wears flats and those have a wider toe box and minimal sole compared to your dad boner new balance sneakers.

Not great. Super comfy but they are slippery when it gets steep, even worse if it’s wet too. I’ve only busted it once in them but man it can be frustrating in some thick leaf cover trekking up a steep ridge. They’re great outside of that but I’ve been using my trail runners in the steep stuff since they actually have some aggressive tread.

You guys are really making this tough. I’m torn choosing among Xero Alpine, Lems Boulder or two of the Vivo Trackers. Based on a sock recommendation on RS (Lenz - but very spendy), I think I could make one of these pairs work for upland bird and cold whitetail sits on an upcoming trip. And they will save me a bunch of awkward weight from my Lacrosse heavy boots.

And I just completed a walk with my wife, and NB dad boners are so 2000. I was wearing Hokas (they are SO in for Gen X) for my 2022 dad boner shoes. And since I rarely wear shoes at home anymore, they were pinching my toes together. Time to switch.

No, I haven’t applied anything to them.

I have the Lems Boulder and the Xero Xcursion. Both are slippery on hills and/ or wet conditions. The Lems are great quality and comfortable. I’m not crazy about the Xero.

I used to be drawn to anything out of the societal norm but as I got older I realized life’s easier when I don’t have to answer 400 questions about my ugly shoes.

i know it isn't the barefoot, zero drop experience....but a tread with at least a small heel really helps....it's a little scoop to grab mud when walking downhill

I use lightweight hiking or trail running shoes even during late season. Super comfortable and warmer than rubber boots, all you need is a pair of arctic shield boot covers and hand warmers.

Unless your getting something crazy minimalist there really isn’t a transition, at least not for me. I’ve got a handful of zero drop shoes and I didn’t notice any difference other than they all have wider toe boxes/ shoes in general and they fit my fat flat foot better.
