I've got a couple of those Plano trunks. I've traveled with them, multiple trips, and the airlines haven't managed to break one yet. Even if I overload it with heavy stuff. Not nearly as heavy-duty as a Pelican case but they've served me well.
I haven't noticed anything stinking like plastic after coming out of the trunk. I generally make a point to put everything through a fresh scent control routine prior to hunting with it, anyway, so I'm not overly concerned about that. I guess if I cared I could put a sachet of baking soda or a couple of cedar scraps in with everything but haven't gone that far yet.
