New Gear for 2023, Go!

Hoping for somewhere around 1.25 lb per stick. A lot is subject to change since it is still a prototype
The picture they showed me, the stick looked just like the LWCG double step stick. The LWCG 17" stick weighs 1 lb 11 oz. Using the same materials, not sure how they can cut any weight from the other aluminum sticks on the market.

2023 might be the year of going back to a stand since these new ones are so light. I’ve been in a saddle for 5-6 years now. I love walking in and being up in a tree with it. I don’t like how much movement it takes to get a shot in comparison to standing on a stand. I don’t like facing the tree the whole time. I can’t believe I’m even thinking this way after spending so much time, money and energy tinkering with my system and going to a saddle. I guess the best way to put it is that I grab the saddle every time because I like it better, until it comes time to try and shoot something. Someone talk me out of it!!

I can’t talk you out of it cuz I made the same choice in 2022… hunted out of the saddle twice. .75 the rest of the time.

I'll likely test out stands as well, I've only ever saddle and ground hunted so gotta see what it's like having my back to the tree.

I was watching Before The Echo the other day and Dan hinted to a climber…. that might be something I’d be interested in. In looking at a lot of the trees I one stick climb in, I could easily use a climber. But unless the climber is super duper comfortable like a Summit Viper, I can’t imagine any tree stand that is as comfortable as a saddle. I do really really like my Chippewa Wedge Loc Quest and it is super quick to set up and quiet. I actually may even get the Ghost this year as well.

He hinted to larger beast stand when the beast stand launched… never happened. Hinted to a smaller beast stand he said was going to be released last summer, then fall and it never was. Now hints at a climber. Be 2027 before we see that climber if ever.

Probably right but they are seemingly more established now and keeping more inventory in stock but I’m not actually positive about that either. Honestly, I like Dan’s videos and YouTube channel and like the people he keeps around him….. Josh has been an excellent addition to the Beast folks’ brand etc. But I ve never used one of his stands nor his sticks so I can’t say one thing or another about their quality but a lot of people seem to like them.

Won’t even try to talk you out of it. I didn’t hunt a single time out of my saddle in 2022. There is no appreciable difference in weight or bulk or whatever metric you want to measure between the new lightweight lock ons and my saddle kit.

Easier to shoot and im not staring at a tree or swinging like a plumb bob from my tether when I don’t have a telephone pole of a tree to climb.

I had this same thought last year, was planning on hunting off a stand this year after the first week of the season dragging a stand around having it and multiple times thinking about how the trees I was in set up better for a saddle i went back to one. Good luck maybe it was just me but I’m over the stand bug.

Let’s keep in mind that the industry, especially saddles, have a horrible reputation when it comes to “hints”. With all that. I may try a hybrid set up. I have an 8.5# assault and wouldn’t mind a seat. I do like the saddle for comfort compared to a stand. We will see.

I don’t know. I use to like and follow Dan but he went a little off the deep end. He doesn’t keep people around for long. He eventually burns that bridge. Same will happen with Josh. He is starting to take to much of the spotlight like Joe was…

Anyhow I like beast sticks.

The beast stand needs some work.

Let’s be real here though he knows Andrae is working on a climber. So he needs to say he is to. Just like “I am working on a larger beast stand” (me2 2.0). “I am working on a small beast stand” (me2 .5)

There is a pattern…

I don’t know them but the LWCG dudes seem arrogant to me. Dan and crew do not. But what do I know. Maybe they’ve earned that right on whatever basis the world deems appropriate. I do have a set of the LWCG double step sticks 20” and they are nice but not any lighter to me than a lot out there and sheesh, they’re $130 a piece. Anyway, I’m glad there are choices and I truly appreciate your frankness with gear and how much you try out and review. I rely on your opinion greatly on gear!!!

I'm hoping for a stand that is 2 lbs or less that is the size of the OG Predator (minimum size most people can stand and turn around on) and a stand that is 3 lbs or less that is the size of the Predator XL.

I think the key might be moving away from sand casted aluminum and mixing up the standard geometry that is a sturdy little post and fold down platform. Hollow materials obviously might make sense and also support for the end of the stand from underneath so that the platform can be less overbuilt. That would function like the cables on a stand but you won't trip over them. If LocOn could make a full stand that weighed 7 lbs or less in the 1980s then there's definite room for weight loss on these comparatively tiny platforms.

This is directed towards the industry spies who prowl these threads looking to “borrow” our ideas for the next best thing… how about focusing your attention on platform/stand gear that integrates the climbing sticks better, allowing us to not be forced into buying bungee cords and fancy straps that look like oversize dog collars, maybe get a person who actually hunts everyday to test this stuff, not some flat brim hat wana bee who is sitting inside a fence on a can hunt looking for more youtube likes and subscribers, maybe this all makes too much sense, who knows, I think we as hunters have proved we’re willing to spend what it takes to get what we want, maybe 2023 can be about making stuff that doesn’t break the first time around and has been thoroughly tested, if that means a few ounces must be added… you know what who cares, I want stuff that is ready to use without fear of breaking, sharp edges removed, made in the USA, and is designed to be packed together, and yes I will pay for such things..
