5lbs is insane for a platform
I don't think so. It's right in the mix with other XL platforms.
The Ledge is rather unimpressive, but it could still be a good platform.
The sales pitch hinges on 3 points:
1. Longer than other platforms...this is mostly bull. It's shorter than other platforms too.
2. Cams better than other platforms...this remains to be seen. The platform goes from Jason's hands to magically set on the demo pole without a demonstration of the platform's alleged superiority in setting up.
3. Higher weight rating...This can be somewhat arbitrary. It's an assigned number, not necessarily a representative factor of tested failure results.
One of the complaints against the lighter and bigger LWCG Ambush is it's flex. Another is it's difficulty to set. Assuming the Ledge sets as well as suggested and is more rigid (due to it's higher weight rating), it would have a leg up in those areas while sacrificing a handful of ounces and a bit of size, comparatively.
Still, it's lighter than the Mission by decent margin (albeit smaller as well) and lighter than the Ridge Runner XL. I don't know what a Predator XL really weighs, someone on here said theirs was 6lbs, but didn't post a photo.
