New Gear Release 2022!

. I personally don't know why anybody would drag a deer out of the woods instead of taking a small frame pack like my MR pop up with them each hunt.
Personally i prefer to hang my deer hide-on for a week before I skin and cut it. Assuming the temperature is conductive to this. I'd rather have the weight on a sled behind me than on my back, and I'd rather cut meat on a table or off a gambrel than in the dirt. If I hunted the mountains or deep swamps I'd probably bone out game in the field, but where I hunt that isn't necessary.

Yep, I can understand that. Like I said different people different priorities.

For out west, a quality pack is priceless. But for deer hunting I will never pay over 100$ for a pack. My badlands pack I got 50% off for 60 bucks does absolutely every thing I need it to. I have no idea what people are lugging around that it needs all that extra stuff designed for western hunting.

Just the essentials

Depending on how far you go and how you hunt, we all have different needs. For some reason the weight adds up quickly.
EDP Platform at 3Lbs 13oz.
Platform Strap & two steps at 13oz.
Transformer Saddle at 2lbs 12oz.
6-Treehopper steps at 2lbs 8oz.
Aider at 6oz.
Linesman & tether with carabiners at 1lb 8oz.
Pullup rope, gear strap, Amsteel daisy & carabiner at 7oz.
Knee Pad at 5oz.

Total 12lbs 8oz. for climbing gear.

Plus, water, deer down kit, and mis. hunting items. I do not like to wear in any mid or outer layers, so I am going to pack them.

When I tree stand hunted, I used a waist pack for my hunting gear and tied everything else to the back of the stand. But I was younger and stronger then.

For saddle hunting, I want the luxury of a good pack. So, I guess I am a weight weenie.

I like a frame in Minnesota. If I’m carrying 8-12 lbs of climbing gear, deer down kit, range finder, trauma kit (I don’t go in the woods without a tourniquet, Sam splint, chest seals, decompression needle, and trauma dressing), and then several large bulky layers, it’s much more manageable with a frame pack.

I’m going to start this season with the Catquiver VII I bought this year, since I’ll be one sticking this year. But I bought an Eberlestock Renegade for $125, the X2 worked great last year hauling sticks, platform, and late season below freezing gear.

Any time I see someone say they walk in hunting without a backpack, with just stuff in their pockets, I can tell they don’t walk far or don’t live near the Canadian boarder.

To each their own, i guess. I carray the minimum i need for that day, plus the essentials that stay in the pack. Last year i tried to keep up with a young mountain goat hunting, in the ohio hills. the system i’m using now goes from early season EDC pack to long haul frame pack in about a minute. Works for me. Great thing is that the frame pack stays on the ground and the mostly empty EDC pack comes up the tree.

I’d like to see a breakdown and pictures of your entire load out @Islandshooter your kit looks very similar to mine with the EWO etc.

The pack looks like a Kifaru shapecharge. I’m sure the pack is well made but I’ll stick with a known pack maker. There is a lot that goes into making a pack comfortable under load. I hope he does well but I’m out, for now.
I used a bandit last year and it was plenty until cold weather hit. Early on I carried 13# and that was everything. Food, water, calls and climbing system. I do 6 days of elk hunting at about 30# and that includes food and water. Not sure what everyone takes with them but there are some insane pack weights around here.

I carry an AED with me. You never know.

I thought Kifaru was a well known pack maker.

How high are you climbing with 12 climbing sticks  maybe 40’ then add in a 3 step aider for each one and you’ll be at perfect height for the deer to never see you…

I would never go into the woods with 12 sticks....

That's 15, count em.

3 Tethrd One sticks
4 Beast sticks
4 LWCG compact sticks
4 LWCG double step sticks

Oh, and two platforms.

People with their packs is insane. They will take an 8lb frame pack to carry 6lbs of sticks. Been there done that….lol

Take less crap with you. If it doesn’t fit in your pockets. Leave it home. Last year I went packless for most of the year. It was great.

I’m a “fit in my pockets” hunter. And I still carry a frame pack. Basically empty. I hate coming out and back in for a deer when I don’t have to. Usually it Carries 2lbs of gear, and 10lbs of water.

Hey guys, just to kinda clear the air so no one thinks I’m a complete moron. Lol I loaded up 15 climbing sticks and 3 platforms on the kyss pack more as a joke, I’d never go into the woods with all that haha. Some guys were inquiring about what kinda weight the pack could handle so I figured I’d just throw the whole gear closet on the pack and show them what it could handle. :) . I’m in no way saying this would be comfortable, 15-20 lbs would be the max “comfortable “ weight this pack could handle. It’s a pretty small minimalist pack.
