New Re-designed Windwalker Treestand

Does he have a website for the Loc On stands? I tried to look up current pricing and it still points to the OG website now defunct since 2013.

Pics of mods???
@BTaylor has pics in this thread and another. Helped me a lot!

Yes completely changed the direction I went in. I’ve copied a design off a pic of another mod’d stand I believe from a different thread. I put a second small piece of steel on back of seat posts added a center post 1” tubing. Removed old seat in stalled a Novix batwing on center post and a Novix replacement seat. Works Awesome!!!! Now seat is comfy!!!! Also added 2 versa buttons on upright seat posts one on either post to use as my stand attachment and works great. Installed 2 more on side of upright posts one on each and again 2 more where the cables attached to platform. Then I made 2 sets of daisy chains one for each side and now my platform has adjustment capabilities. If I did it again I’d go with Whoopi’s slings for better adjustment. The new seat also can be flipped backwards and used as a meat shelf and is where I placed my sticks for walk in. Now all mods are done and a few hunts have been had in it. Works great but was still kinda limiting with angled trees I tend to like to get in. So I did end up purchasing an XOP Coldworld as my primary run and gun stand. However the WindWalker will be deployed during season too. Most likely as a setup used in a known location. A place miles in that I’ll be able to throw stand on and hang it and leave it for the next sit. I’ll pull sticks as I come down but I find bunches of places in Maine where I live where sign is found while still hunting and is super good spot but WAY in thick nasty woods. This will allow me to have super light stand I can take in and maybe leave for a little bit and hunt in best conditions. FYI I believe the total mods costed around $100 and took me about a day to work on after watching some YouTube vids on how to tie my own daisy chains. So $20 at yard sale, 1 can textured patio furniture paint, some para cord, stealth strips, Novix seat, Novix batwing, 6 versa buttons, 1 cam strap and some 3/16 Amsteel. All in probably $150-175.

I tried daisy chains first too and immediately switched to slings.

@Wirrex finished out it is about 3 pounds heavier than a LWCG .5 and a slightly smaller platform. But it is about half the cost or less and you have less cable interference due to the dual post design of the stand spreading them out some. The 3 pound difference is almost doesnt matter if you are rope climbing or using 2TC. The other drawback for some folks would be that it does not have teeth on the platform so it doesnt grip the tree like the LWCG stands. That has been a non-issue for me though.

One other thing, when I ordered my stand from Mark, he let me tweak what I was getting. I ordered the stand without the Loc-on seat and cables and added a second aluminum plate so I could double stack them for the short center post for the replacement seat. Mark was super easy to deal with and got the stuff out to me quickly.

I agree the weight difference is a non-issue for me either. I find that whether it’s 5lbs or 10lbs it’s a moot point. I don’t think the weight thing means much until you get to 12-15lbs. Then it’s noticeable but with something like Genesis 3D strap stager takes the tough part of the weight issue out and that’s hanging a stand. Steel stands are heavy like my old Gorilla King Kong but even then that stands only about 12lbs and I can hang that in to seconds in the dark and it’s absolutely rock solid. It again has limitations like the WindWalker and that is the bottom platform teeth. Now I’d say for me it’s needed about 50% of the time but I’ll bet most it’s maybe 25-30%. Once you hook the strap up on the WindWalker and get into the stand and on the platform the stand is super stable. I drilled holes and use bolts kinda as my teeth but they truly don’t bite as the 2 post design isn’t made to allow that to happen. Again once you get into the stand it’s solid as hell on a reasonable tree. I just happen to hunt mostly unreasonable trees. That’s why I’ve all but put my climber into retirement.

Or you hit 65, :).

I like seeing the mods that are being done to these stands. I still use my Windwalker more often than not. I added a couple versa buttons to mine and added the longer seat posts, 20” last year some time. In the future I plan on swapping out the cables for some rope to be able to adjust the platform like some of y’all have done already.
