All the major support is still there may just cut a pice of aluminum the shape I like and weld on or just bolt with washers. It's about like the .5 seat now as far as comfort.
I love the Helo hate the factory seat the old LW Assault seat doesn't have the seat adjusting I wanted so I custom made my own.
No but it's a big difference and carrying with out all the seat hanging down makes a lot of difference for me at 5.4
Please take in to account.........KYhunter66 and I are both short and weight about the same as full 2 liter Mt Dew, so our seat size may not meet everyone's needs.
I stand most of the time any way and with rock harnesses lean like a saddle but really the .5 seat is not much better.
Found a nice pack for you guys with treestands. Heck, it would work well with a saddle too. Took the backpack straps off and one of the stays out. Weighs right at 2 pounds. Attached a DanO pouch to the outside of it. It’s a Kifaru lumbar pack, they make a smaller size as well. 
Very nice. I was thinking the Kifaru Scout would be close to perfect for my .5 too. I missed the sale, so I'm going to wait on it. But, you've only added to my confidence that the pack is a super choice. Especially as I can run it as a lumbar pack with a platform.
You will like it, it should fit perfect on the .5. The scout has the stays in it so it gives it some rigidity if you decide to run it as a straight lumbar pack. The website is a little misleading on the weight though. My scale puts it at 3lbs as it comes.
Why not just rubber dip the front? Or stealth strip it? Or adhesive backed weather stripping? Just spitballing here.
Never mind, I think you were talking about the top of the seat where your butt goes. I was thinking about the front edge that might dig into you a bit.
Can you router foam?? Take 2" thick foam and router out an inch to let the cast seat set in inside?? That would cover the edges and top but not raise the seat height. Or wpuld it melt..
This is it all ready to hunt with 3 full LW sticks. This is my back up stand I'm hunting with the .5 most of the time.
