Official admit if you fell rope climbing thread.

I've settled/broken twigs hanging up an anchor redirect while rope climbing, purposefully. It's a minor drop, but it was in a legit harness not in a hunting saddle... I WAS wearing my leg straps too haha! I haven't had any saddle hunting issues to date, all my sketchy stuff has been outside of saddle hunting lol.
Are you an arborist or just rec climbing? Either way, have you seen the YouTube guy Guilty of Treesome?

@tailgunner you’d like him hes a west coasty and he does some relatively sketchy stuff. Even girth hitches to trees all day long with a carabiner on those 150ft + fir trees.

I do some tree work (I was that day) although technically not professionally. I rec climb too, just not with a saw, and typically not with an additional work positioning setup... If you want to watch tree work on YouTube I actually prefer August Hunicke over Guilty of Treeson lol.

GoT has better dialogues, August seems more technical and professional lol

I would not worry one bit if you where climbing a wet tree in the dark 3 ridges over in my gear without cell service....i wounder why

Jamie and Robert build thier saddle the way they do for a reason.both good dudes with a conssiance that couldnt live with thier selves if someone got hurt.i dont have the stress of not knowing the qualifications of a customer...i make my stuff for my specifications wich are not average.im trained to risk my life effectively without injuries..my stuff is not built like a tank but i understand compleatly every components exspectations and limits without guessing.

Hunicke's sense of humor is similar to mine, so maybe that's something too lol. He shoots a recurve too.
I’ll have to give him another shot. Only watched a couple of his. It was a hoot when the guy from GoT was cutting with August. He was teaching GoT the whole time too.

I’ve had only positive experiences rope climbing. If there’s no slack in your system then there’s no where to fall.

I’d actually like to learn a method of 2TC that never has a slack line for getting up into trees that aren’t throw ball friendly

Had a wild swing on one of my first 2TC climbs. My toe grab in the foot tether slipped on smooth bark and I swung out far of the tree trunk. I steadied myself by flailing and grabbing the trunk with my arms. Definitely a pucker moment. If I would’ve fallen, it could’ve been sketchy because I might’ve gone down sideways or tipping towards inverted. Yes, the upper tether would’ve grabbed soon but I was climbing on my rappel line with a quick link; the weight of that hardware even with a stopper makes it want to slide down the tree when unloaded, as it is when a 2TCer steps into the foot tether. I got sorted out, sat down for a good nervous sweat, and then continued.

This might never have been risky if I’d have used a rappel line pulled through a tied knot eye instead of a quick link (yeah, annoying as that is), or a typical rope tether not prone to falling down, or had a better stopper than a rubber washer. I hear a bungee ball works great to keep everything snug.

My point is @tailgunner even though it’s arguably a lot safer than many other climbing methods, 2TC is not bulletproof. I think this experience showed me even 2TC can have varying degrees of risk depending on your gear choice.

Well your saddle has survived about 30 24"+ drop tests and I still use it for all scout climbs.

Doesn't the type of tree make a difference as far as noise goes? Advancing a tether up 16-18 inches at a time up a pine tree will be much more noise than 2 or 3 stick attachments
Depends if you drag it up or open and close around each ring of branches. All our pines here start branch rings at about 10 feet so it'd be the same amount of redoing your tether no matter what climbing method you have besides any of the 3 long rope climbs. I only ever climb a pine tree with 2TC once, then it gets a preset.
