Official Team 4 Discussion Thread

Season opens here in Ontario on Oct 1st. I'll be out for a couple of sits early on around my house, but "unfortunately" go up north later that week moose hunting (we drew both a bull and cow tag this year!). Once I am back, I will be back in my locals stands. Come the rut I will be back up north around Algonquin Park for a week of rifle hunting. If everything works out later on I will meet up with @Ontariofarmer for some late season hunting in his neck of the woods. Guarantees up here are tough to make - most of my hunting is big big woods, and the deer density is low. That can make them hard to located consistently. On the flip side, the human pressure in many of my up north spots, is damn near zero...

Up here I hunt ~75% public land, but keep in mind that Ontario is bigger than Texas and is ~87% public land.

Have a great season Team 4!

I always forget that there's more to Ontario than Toronto and Lake Simcoe lol! One of these years i want to book a bear hunt in CA. I heard guided hunts were very reasonable, especially when the exchange is good.

I'm in Michigan not to far from the Blue Water Bridge + Sarnia.

It's a fantastic province - there is so much opportunity for recreation here it could fill a lifetime. I would almost argue that the fishing here is stronger than the hunting (just cause the fishing is so strong), but that might get me into a bar fight - hard to say.

Bear hunts up here are easily arranged. Bear numbers are way up, and the province has reopened a spring hunt (fall and spring tags are no problem to get and are inexpensive). I tend to have a bear encounter pretty much every year while either fishing or hunting - without even trying for one. If you ever got serious about coming north, touch base - at the very least I could point you in the right direction, maybe better.

Well got out this morning.....all I saw was 4 coyotes and no shots. The good news is there are acorns all over the ground under my other stand. Will try again tomorrow if I don't get the OT tonight.
Sorry guys.....20+ winds and rain have kept me grounded.....maybe I'll try later.

Woke up late this morning so I decided to check my cameras. I always bring my weapon when going in the woods during season just in case. Well a nice 4 pointer was in front of my camera when he spotted me and took off. Would have been a 40 yard shot if I went out....oh well.

My son and I are hunting tomorrow at a spot we call White Oak Flat. I haven't checked it out this year but, I am hoping acorns are dropping. It's historically been a good spot but, not somewhere we hunted often because it was a long hike with climber on your back.

I'll be in a swamp getting my limit on mosquitoes and ready to fly arrows at any unsuspecting deer. It's a corridor that has traveling deer and the wind direction is favorable.

Blew it this morning. Big doe at 32 yards and buck fever got me....She jumped the string and arrow went right over her. Will try again in morning.

I'm still waiting for my season to start so keep up the good chase and reports, I have to rely on your experiences from afar at this point. I did get out and practiced my setups some more this morning though. Our temp was down in the low 40's so I felt good going with the full dress rehearsal. It went really well but I'm gonna get out and do it again tomorrow. It's nice to get the tree again without all the sweat and bugs.

Redemption ? Doe....20 yards, 35 feet up in my Kestrel. Finishing a cup of coffee and getting my beagle(Snoopy). Wish us luck.

So the sit last night was enjoyable. I pulled the card from the camera when I got there and saw I had a 120 inch 8 point there 45 minutes before I got to the flat. I ended up seeing 5 deer and had 2 small bucks under me feeding on acorns for most of the night. One was 8 small a point and all I kept thinking was if I shoot him that's 13 points for the competition and then I would be free just to video my son and Dad the rest of the year...hmmm... But I decided to let him pass. Got lots of good videoing playing with my new camera though.
