Outfitter Spartanforge, is anyone using it and what is your opinion?

I like the weather and historic wind stuff.

But I like onx better for in season. Base maps is better for cyber scouting.

Spartan forge needs work. Not worth $40/yr I will be canceling my trial.

I have OnX, Spartan forge and HuntStand. If I had to keep 1 it would be OnX still because I like their map layers. Map details does leave a bit to be desired I admit.

I like huntstand for the map detail and cyber scouting. And that you can make individual hunt areas and create property boundaries to save them.

Considering trying basemap but it seems more western focused which is not applicable to me unfortunately. I could be wrong about that though.

Gonna hang onto Spartan forge for a while longer. I’m locked in at $15 a year so interested to see where it goes for that $.

Is it nationwide mapping or state specific? Also, does it do anything with your trail camera data?

Nationwide. Not sure about trail cam info, I know you can upload pics and log the info but I don’t know if it’s takes any info and puts it into the ai sciency machine thing..

Thanks. Their website has absolutely no information.

I've had it since the beginning. I paid to keep the price low so when the app launched my price would be locked in.

Well the app finally is here and I've used it all season. It is marginal at best compared to basemap. The saved waypoints are hard to organize, hard to access, and don't give you all the information on the same screen compared to basemap. The compass is not even close to being as good as basemap, and the "prediction" of deer movement is laughable. It reminds me of the drury app failure.

I'm a little pissed about this because it appears now that the idea these guys had in the beginning had no development. They lied, and we paid them to literally build the app.

****ing swindled.

Yea it’s so underwhelming to me that when I see the guys that are pumping I wonder if I have the wrong thing. I did it hoping for quick access to historic winds but that’s about as generic as it gets IMO. From what I can tell it just tells you the percentage that each wind direction blew during the last two weeks or month. But you can’t go see what the wind was doing at 10am when you got a bucks picture. Their motto is “find fix finish” I think that’s referring to the app haha

Yeah I was hoping/expecting they would break the day down more into an hourly forecast or at least period of the day forecast.

I use it now pretty much more than onx
I love it. The only thing they need to do is get it up and running on desktop like you can with onx.
that option which i hear is coming will burry onx.
few other small changesor upgrades are needed but they are supposedly coming.
imho it will be the too gps tool if they keep the hard work up

For what it currently is... I'll pass... I know cold fronts are good and I can see wind predictions on wunderground. In its current form it's useless to me.

I have onx, basemap and spartan. I will probably get rid of basemap, it seems it takes forever to load and if im out in the woods where the service is spotty it doesn't want to work period. I just started using spartan more in the past few weeks and I'm really liking the summer to fall maps. Seems to show edges and other transitions better than onx.

I agree. I’m locked in with it for cheap as well and want to see where it goes still. But so far I’m certainly not giving up OnX yet. The public lands it shows are not the same as what OnX shows and seems to show a lot less of them, at least in my area.

I don’t understand how guys are saying this app has replaced all of their other map apps, I guess unless they are under contract to be spreading that messaging? I feel like I would be putting myself at a big disadvantage doing that at this moment.

I don’t think the app is completely useless by any means but I am glad it is not my only choice at this moment.

I keep thinking back to all the talk about “army intelligence” background mentioned on the start up interviews. Explains why it took 10 years to find a terrorist hiding in the desert

Had to give em time to mature.

They need time to collect more user data so their "machine learning algorithms" can learn where everyone hunts. I've long thought OnX will likely someday turn user data around and use it against us. Or at least those of us that put in the work and scout. The "premium package" will tell you right where to go. Might as well just sell your waypoints rather than pay to be crowded out.

Exactly why I never downloaded the “spy-artan forge app”

I talked with an outdoor editor and recreational real estate agent who speculated the whole mobile hunting craze was created to lower property value.

Very conspiratorial, I would think more an unintended consequence. People now really lean into their hunting results as a defining part of their identity. It was a lot more process and lifestyle oriented a generation or two ago. Basic economics dictates the effects on land values.
