Man, I should have made some popcorn before I read this thread!
I think the pro pod argument is an interesting one, but I don't think I can hop on board for two reasons:
1- Even if it is ok to eat, I have mental hangups about eating something that was killed with poison. I just don't think I could actually enjoy a meal without worrying about some sort of weird side effect.
2- I can't speak for everyone here, but I enjoy using archery equipment to hunt because it is harder. To that point, it is unnecessarily harder in comparison to the use of modern firearms. So, I am, on purpose, going about killing an animal in an unnecessarily difficult manner; why, then, would I want the kind of insurance that comes with using pods? I want to kill the animal because my skill allowed me to do so; I want whatever deer I kill to be a tangible "prize" for all of the effort that goes into archery hunting. If I screw up and wound or lose an animal, I want to learn that hard lesson and let that moment of failure fuel my future practice and shot awareness so it never happens again. I think that fear of a bad shot is a great motivator to practice practice practice, and I worry that using pods would take away the incentive to be an effective archery hunter.
I would rather see an extended rifle season than an archery season with pods.
