So I preordered an XL thinking it was gonna be the end all be all for hunting, and now I miss the regular predator. I have realized that the extra room wasn’t necessary for me wearing a size 10 boot. I miss the ease of packing the regular predator in/out. Anyone else run into anything similar with these larger platforms? Hoping I’m not just going insane.

I have owned neither but I have two diy’s and they each serve a purpose in my arsenal. The larger one is nice for late season and all day sits. It might be hard to discern without using them back to back.

I have tried the mission so i cant say about the XL but im sure glad i went with the regular predator. Like you said the packabilty and the weight dont even come close to making up for the size....maybe i said that backwards lol.

I had same experience and traded the xl off for a regular. I wear a 15 boot.

I found with using bolts how I do and preset my trees for additional foot positions the xl was too big and not worth the hassle... I have owned a predator, assassin, xl and ambush. Predator will be my go too until something else catches my attention

I had most platforms and liked the Predator best. But wished there was just a little extra room I could get space between my feet and felt it would be ideal if I could stand up and pivot on the platform late season. Tried out the Ambush, Assassin and mission. Didn’t love any of them. Trying out the Predator XL. At first shot it seems like the ticket but I need to get a few hunts with it.

for the most comfort I still think a ROS is the way to go.

I’m actually trading my Assassin to go back to a Ridge Runner. Loved the size when I was in the tree but it just did not make up for the weight and cumbersome carry. I am 6’3 275 and used a Scout on my single stick first time this morning. With the stand off of the stick and the platform I felt I had plenty of room. Will use the ridge for late season hunts when I have more layers and it becomes worth it to pack in a platform again.

I have the XL. I sold my regular predator. I do like the XL a better because I can have my feet further apart and weak side shot. Also traction is another big thing I like about it. I am starting to feel the need to get a smaller platform for shorter hunts though...

I haven’t hunted from the XL yet but the standard Predator is just about dang near perfect for me. Easy to pack, still plenty of room and not heavy at all. I could see the XL being nice when I am using the Arctic shield boot covers tho.

A gen 3 predator with all the traction the XL has would be superb.

I have no issues packing the XL, never tried the regular predator but i dont think I would be able to downsize.

I wear a 12 wide boot and run a regular Predator (and also a lighter Tree Suit...both with amsteel daisy chains to further quiet/reduce weight). I walk in far and in the mountains and brush with a middle-aged back. I count every ounce, something the 25 year olds from flat states call being a weight weenie or accuse you of being fat over.

I love my Predator, but I bet I would love it even more if it didn't have the wings on the heel end. How come you guys haven't done that option yet?! @g2outdoors

I guess you missed the thread where those wings are patented by them and also the subject of patent dispute.

I did, do you know the thread? I think the wings are the worst part of the platform IMO. They don't benefit most shots at all. The LW seat kit platform I made had optimum angles for all side shots and packed perfect. Only reason I don't use it anymore is because I wanted a camming platform.

There might be more than one.

My idea to get around the patent was to put a small tapped hole in that location and then someone can screw in or out (or remove) a 1/8" bolt if they want extra purchase....and then patent that bolt!
