Primal cam over V steps

Anyone know of any good cheap options for a bag to carry the steps in other than the tactical messenger bag? I'm looking at carrying 6-8 steps. Anyone know of anything?

If there is a Army surplus store in your area see if they have an old night vision goggle carry bag. If you find one you will see they have a bunch o’ pockets and such inside. Cut that stuff out so you just have the bag. Go to the inside seam on the bottom and give it a snip large enough for the points of the steps to poke thru. Has a zipper closure that opens far enough to take out the steps while climbing. I carry 7 in mine and attach my plywood platform to it as well. Picked mine up for $7 or so.

8 steps will fit in here.
This will sling over your shoulder.

Hey I appreciate that man! I've been racking my brain trying to come up with something that I could fit around 8 of them in. Thanks for the help!

I use just a camo walmart backpack that I sewed some adjustabel chest straps to for walking in. The bag fits 8 steps and all the straps no problem. I just hook the bag to my saddle while climbing to take out a step or to put steps back in. For me being able to put steps back in swiftly and quietly was a big factor. I tried a smaller, tighter bag and had issues putting steps back in when climbing down.
Just food for thought. The bag also can hold anything else I want to bring into the woods with me. So 8 steps + whatever else in my pack, my saddle, and my bow....I'm ready to hunt any tree any height needed. I carry a swaider with me to spread my steps out further if needed.

I bought 2 more sustainment pouches yesterday. I use them on my GI pack and my hunting vest and for my linesmans belt/tether/pull up cord bag on my climbing harness. I also use 1 for my 8 Primal steps. Just the right size for lunch/sustainment, too.:grinning:

Instead of cutting buckles off has anyone tried hockey tapeing the catch buckle to silence it? Or are y'all cutting them off to make them cam over more easily?

3/4” plywood, spray paint and self stick rubber tread from Harbor Freight

The corners slide under and it rests on the crossbar. If you cut it right, it will be tight and will not accidentally slide out, even when loaded with side pressure
Thank you veeery much!! This site is awsome!! I have felt alone in saddle hunting for way too long.. Haveing all this knowledge from folks that experiment with thier gear like i do is PURE GOLD!!

How far away from the tree is the furthest outside edge? ( how long is it)

Cutting the buckles to use the strap as a makeshift WE steps type rope. I think it cams easier tying the WE knot than with the buckles and it’s a plus that you lose the noise.
