Quiet Outer Wear Thread

Has anyone owned cowboy suede? I have been intrigued. Gray wolf woolens is within driving distance.
The cowboy suede is very similar to the outer material on a heater body suit. 100% dacron knapped polyester.

What do you guys use? Any quality silent clothing deserves a post in this thread. Bonus if it’s available in solid colors.

Johnson Woolen Mills makes great stuff - ultra quiet, and no sheen in bright sunlight, quality and price are good. For the finest, non-scratchy wool that’s woven in a 3-dimensional jacquard weave and napped so it handles <= 15 mph wind and rain in a single layer garment just fine, check out WeatherWool.com - it’s expensive stuff but worth the money.

I bought a bunch of cheap "Guide Series" fleece pullovers and pants from Gander Mountain when they were going out of business.

They are soft, quiet, and warm. It's all I wear once it gets cold, unless it's pouring rain The day they wear out or tear, I'm not sure what I am going to do. I've yet to find suitable replacements that weren't outrageously priced.

I agree with you. Especially the pack systems we are all gravitating too and the bino pouches. I like their functionality and utility but man, they are super loud for the whitetail woods. I've half thought about taping stealth strips to the outer pockets of my bino harness and parts of my pack but worry that the adhesive of the stealth strips will never be removable! As far as clothing, I tried the SKRE hoody targeted for early season hunting and it was very quiet, and I also used it as part of my layering system. I do like the Wrangler ATG pants I think they are very quiet and great for early season outer layer and as a layering system for later in the season. Nomad had a sale last year and I went to the Nomad Cottonwood "hoody" this year and that sucker is quiet and warm. Its a poor man's sitka I think. But honestly, and usually, wool has been my go-to and I really like the Asbell Wool Anorak pull over as my top layer for most of bow season. I have four pairs of military surplus wool pants that I put over a layer of poly, then merino, then the wrangler pants then the wool army pants over the top. Super quiet especially when you're going through brambles or climbing. Really, the wool is the toughest stuff I've ever owned. I am liking the Nomad hoody. Finally, the USGI Field Pants are decently quiet especially after several seasons of use.

The easiest most cost effective IMO is surplus stuff and the frogg togg ultralite suit over the mid layer and underneath the outer layer...the FrTo isn't quiet as an outer layer but pretty darn quiet compared to majority windproof jackets under something simple like a field jacket....but I have not experience with the real expensive high end stuff

Following that same concept you could layer an OR helium rain jacket over a mid layer and under your outer. It's a great little rain/wind jacket and weighs about the same as a handful of popcorn. It's actually not overly loud by itself but is not built for brush busting as an outer. I will throw a second up for the winterceptor stuff from Natural gear. It for sure does well blocking wind and is pretty much silent but it is warm for putting on miles and does not have pit zips to vent. The cut is also a little baggy for my preference. Sitka stratus is probably the best of the best for quiet, warm and windproof as well as fit.

I bought the same plus the heavy Guide series jacket and pants when Gander was going out of business. The best and use it to this day. Any type of fleece I have owned de-pickered any brush or woods I’ve walked thru and ended up in the trash bin!
Gloves that are quiet and functional as far as I am concerned don’t exist.
I seldom wear any gloves.

Code of Silence was quiet, and held up well on its first time out in the woods with me. I have the Zone 7 verse jacket.

Why are so many products marketed to hunters unbelievably loud? The stuff for western hunting seems to be the worst.

I just packaged up over a grand of Kuiu products to catch a ride back to the factory. It’s like a tyvek suit. There is just no way I am going to be able to keep my sanity when I sound like I’m waltzing through a ski chalet.

Is it too much to ask for a product that you can hike endless miles in, give you a little wind protection, and not be the equivalent of a garbage bag?

Sitka

If I hadn't of started a collection of Sitka I would go with scent lock. Sitka is like wearing pajamas in the woods, comfy and it works. I like the carbon concept of scent lock, I believe it works, to a degree. what I'd like to try is buckskin in a camo pattern

What garments in particular that aren’t elevated 2? I know, I’m being picky but I don’t like that pattern for the ground.
Eh not sure, all i have is elevate 2, does fine on the ground also but my buddies that have the waterfowl stuff is also quiet, waterproof/resistant and windproof. Id imagine most of sitka stuff is. But the stratus and fanatic series as far as woods hunting, cant beat it.

The vest I'm wearing right now is a Sitka vest in a really cool pattern. It's called MOTHWING Mountain Mimicry...
I've never seen or heard of it till a month ago. I was checking out Sitka stuff on EBay and I got this vest cheap considering their normal prices.

I'm sure this pattern would work just fine out West?
Maybe do a search for this pattern in your size on eBay and see what pops up?
