Rappelling

In my case, 35’ was the lower crotch and in the perfect tree for the saddle I was hunting (topography saddle not the saddle you wear).

I’ll probably order a longer rope next year. I’m already getting visible wear from my ascender so swapping my main rope out is going to happen anyway.

Are you going with Oplux and what length? I am tempted.

Question, can the prusik that came with the TETHRD line belt and tether be used on Sterling 9mm HTP?
Or go with Beal Jammy (35, 50 or 60cm)?

To my knowledge the TETHRD rope is 11m samson predator. The diameter of your prussik rope needs to be a smaller diameter than the rope it is attached to. For a Sterling 9mm HTP rappel rope, tether, etc.. you should use a Beal Jammy, Sterling TRC 6mm or similar as your prussik.

First season in the saddle, winter project will be playing with rappel. I do have, never used yet, BD ATC XT, two Sterling 13.5 hollow block loops, and binders, just need rope. Plan was/is to get 9mm HTP, minimum that is supported for this ATC. Want to use the HTP as rappel line and tether, and ditch the stock tether. But all this movement to Oplux, less weight, bulk, etc. Wondering if I should sell my ATC, hollow block, and get set up with Oplux. I likely will never go higher then 20 feet, just not sure if it's worth it.

I'm using HTP at the moment. I'm tempted as well but based on the material I don't think the sheath on OpLux would last as long. I'll probably try it eventually though. I got a quote for 50' of OpLux with a factory sewn eye ($123) yikes.

The prusik that comes with the Tethrd LB is 6.5mm and should work fine with 9mm HTP.

Sooo I got my Kong Duck. I also bought 40’ 9mm sterling. I preset a my practice tree and today I tried everything out. I set my rappel line on the 550 cord, pulled it up and around the tree girth hitched it and pulled it up. On went the Duck and my LWHC and up the tree I went. It was awesome! I didn’t have to keep resetting my tether, I just used the rappelling line all the way up.

I thought before about how much weight and bulk I would save by going to 8mm Oplux from my current 8.5mm climbing rope. I don't think it is much. I do substitute rope for 4 climbing sticks so that is something. The photo shows Beal 8mm, Edelweiss 8.5mm and Edelweiss 9mm about 35 feet each. The blue and black ropes are 10.5mm and 11mm. I do have a fluorescent green 9mm HTP rope which is not in the photo.
9mm HTP does seem to be the sweet spot in rope selection. Not crazy about the color of it.

Will the 9mm HTP soften up over time?

Another question, will 25 - 30 feet HTP 9mm fit in one SYS Hauler main pouch?
My experience so far is that the SYS Hauler doesn't hold up well to being over filled either. I had a longer tether in mine for a while that was a little bulky for the pouch and its blown out a lot of the stitching on the draw string and top fabric.

It's not samson predator. It's thicker and I like it less than predator. So think that the splices don't save any real bulk. It's the same rope as 1/2 in rw treestand rope I think.
