Really happy with my system

I tried it for a bit. Seemed like a good method. Then I did it wrong once and rode a stick down the tree. Very frightening. I think it can be good, It just has some fiddle factor I didn't like in the dark. The cam buckle is hard to mess up.
No doubt. The same factors apply to rope mod though.

You suck.... and congrats!

I was just looking at the bama weather this week (my daughter is looking at UA and AU) and shook my head at the temps knowing hunting season marches on there. Here in Vermont we're done and it's 30 degrees and snowing 4-10 inches tonight.
So a big cold front is moving in tonight and the high tomorrow is 46. Pray for us, it’s gonna be tough. ;)

Cool now we need pictures of everything from the tote, to the sticks, to the pack, the works.

One thing that was missing were my knee pads. They slip in the tote too. They were on the front porch drying from where I had to wash blood off them from when I was quartering my last doe. They are back home now.

Very nice set up.

That’s a sweet set up! You have given me some good ideas for sure.

I’ve been running a MR pop frame only but like you I find it cumbersome. I have the gen1 and I don’t like the hip belt. I would like to put a different one on it in the future.

I’ve been one sticking this season with a muddy stick along with the predator xl platform. I have mixed feelings about it. I’m not super efficient with it. I picked up 4 shikar fxd sticks with a scout platform on one of them and they came with amsteel daisy chains. I’m super excited to give those a try (I’ve been battling a back injury which has kept me out of the tree). I think the shikar stick with the platform will make one sticking a little easier though. And I’ll have 3 regular sticks I can pair with it if I don’t want to one stick.

For next season I think I’m gonna try the helikon tex foxtrot mk2 waist pack paired with a predator xl pack. It’s not the biggest waist pack but I don’t carry much or have the need to carry in too many layers. I hunt in Arkansas where it rarely gets colder than 30. The pack has some features that I think I can tinker with and make a really solid set up.

Gonna try a similar setup of carrying my sticks like this and dropping my frame pack. Drops quite a bit of weight for me. Streamlines my setup too I think. Just curious how I like carrying my sticks this way. Giving it a go the next few hunts

If I'm hunting somewhere where I'm not concerned with packing a deer out, I just leave my frame pack in the truck. When I do that, I carry my sticks in one hand and bow in the other. If I need to hop on OnX I just stop and put the sticks down. It actually forces me to walk slower and get sweated up.

Went with the LWCG .5 this year and it worked pretty well, 3 sticks with cable aiders set on the seat shelf and strap to the platform. This has allowed me to lose my pack but I do wear a Primos bow vest that has 5 pockets in it for all my goodies- tag, milkweed, grunt call, light and range finder. Can also bungy cord some outer layers on the .5 when it gets cold out.

Do lightweight sticks make a big difference carrying them over your shoulder? I have a set of helium’s and Shikars that I’m going to give a go, but don’t know if the price difference between the two is worth the couple pounds.

One modification on the Tethrd Suspenders - the plastic piece was kinda hitting me in a weird spot on my back so I used a nite-ize gear tie to attach it at the base of my saddle. There is still plenty of suspenders left. I didn't cut it off in case I change my mind. You can still see the original attachment and webbing behind the gear hoist.

Left SYS hauler

Right external - small bug spray and stick Versa Strap. The strap is easily accessible if I come to a multi-trunk tree where I just need one long strap to get to the trunk I want to be on.

Left external - milkweed

Bottom of main - 2 more stick Versa straps and a Predator Versa strap in the bottom with linesman belt on top. These are in case I need them. I don't use them all the time because I often end up in basketball size trees or smaller but I like to have them since they weigh so little and give me the option for larger trees. Grunt call is in one of the internal pockets and the spare carabiner is in another one of the internal pockets. (Yes I know the ropeman is out of spec. Others have used it this way without issue. I have tested it in a variety of scenarios at ground level. It is a risk I am willing to take right now. I do not recommend anyone to use gear out of spec. At some point I may change to a Kong duck.)

Right SYS Hauler

Left External - Prusik loop - (Just in case)
Middle External - three S-biner with one gate removed for hanging gear on HYS strap
Right External - Backwoods Mobile Gear Versa Aider (easily accessible when I get to the tree.)

Main compartment - from the bottom up - Recliner, HYS strap with weapon holder attached, and tether (same note about tether as linemans above). This is the order I use them in. I also have a small Ziploc with two milkweed pods in an internal pocket as back up/extra.

Pack Breakdown

I love how thin the profile is both in its depth and width. It sets inside my profile and doesn’t stick far off my back. It’s about the depth of a water bottle. And all though it doesn’t look like it, the Predator XL is in the pack in these pics.

Bottom SYS hauler (OG version) - this is an older version and that’s important because the two side pockets are bigger. The left side holds my water bottle and the right side has some paracord in the bottom and my headlamp on top. I can access either my water bottle or headlamp easily without taking the pack off. That is real nice. In the main compartment from the bottom up is my backup release, kill kit and then a ziploc with TP for tracking or #2 business. The main compartment is just over half full and still has room for other stuff (gloves, winter hat, etc) to be put in if needed for specific trip.

Top SYS Hauler (New Version) - THis version has more pockets and is nice for organization. This hauler has Thermocell fuel and pads on the left external pack next to the Thermacell clipped on the pack. The middle external pocket has Hothands. The right external pocket has extra batteries for headlamp in ziploc bag. Inside the hauler in the inside organization pockets I have one pocket with more Thermacell fuel and pads because it's Alabama and you don't get caught without your Thermacell even in the winter. Another pocket has a couple more Hothands. And the third pocket has Nite-ize gear ties and small ziploc bags that can be used to store trash from snacks or protect my phone in the rain. The snacks hang out in the main part of the compartment. There is still lots of room in this hauler either for more food and/or extra water for an all-day hunt, pack of bullets, powerbank to charge the phone, or any other sundry item I need to bring along.

I did find that the SYS Haulers were coming unhooked from the molle so I reinforced with some gutted paracord. Both of the SYS haulers are set in the middle at the very bottom and very top

If I need to bring a jacket I can attach it with the provided lashing straps. I did modify and use the webbing attachment straps from the Tethrd Suspenders girth hitched to a molle. There are some loops you can attach to on the pack (see last pic below) but I kinda like this method and being able to repurpose those straps.

B38F2240-E04B-48E9-9132-AB146A631CD7.jpeg

Even with a jacket attached it's still very slim and trim.

Other side of the pack. I have an s-biner for attaching the pack to HYS Stap in the tree. I have a ball compass for navigation. You can also see the loops you can use as a variety of attachment points for the lashing straps.

Recently trying to ditch my pop up too and move to just carrying my sticks in. Anyone else have a strap suggestion for carrying in sticks? I’m all ears.
My first single step aider I made was made out of one of them safety straps you get with safety harnesses ( the one with a loop on each end). I tied a knot in the middle to shorten it and vet taped the middle loop just to make it like a rope. I hitched one end to the top of my stick, over the standout. Then it just hangs in front as an aider. After stacking sticks together I just hooked that loop to the other end of sticks and viola! Shoulder strap just like in the video.
