Saddle hunters support thread.

Fortunately I never drank the Madrock koolade, I'm on a figure-8. But seriously contemplating a Guide ATC or similar tube belay device.

I've honestly been contemplating something similar for various reasons. The Priveledged Bowhunter has some good videos on the ATC over the madrock. May pick one up this year before season starts so I can familiarize myself with it.

Yeah, his video really did it for me. This season I climbed (1-stick) on a Longhorn Agile girth hitched to the big loop of my figure-8. This worked out really slick, climbed on the hitch and ran the line through the 8 at height.

Practice is important! And if switching to an 8mm line and you currently use a madrock, you'll also need a new rapelling device that's in spec with 8mm, so you can practice with that too. And don't forget to replace those ropeman 1s with kong ducks!

Aren’t you relatively new to this forum? Shame on us, we really corrupted you hard and fast.

Staccato is the new name for STI. I have a STI Trojan that I’ve had for years that I used to shoot IDPA with. It’s been a great gun. I’m not completely opposed to used, but the price would have to be great because otherwise I’m losing out on the lifetime warranty. It only applies to original purchaser.
Yes. Let me rephrase. Staccato is just an STI that costs more money due to marketing. Find a used Stacatto that someone already got burned on paying retail then realizing it isn't worth the hype.

You don't happen to be traveling through west Michigan soon? I know a store you should have a chat with about those Staccatos

Hahaha, I wish I was. Sorry if my original post sounded off, I have been in the firearms profession for a long time and it's easy to remember the times when a STI was the end all be all of competition pistols for USPSA and IDPA and any 3 gun shooter.

The marketing is the same in the bow industry. Literally the exact same. So I just try to remind people not to fall for the marketing hype in any category and to come to forums like this one where you get legit end user feedback down to the tiniest details.

If you have the money for the holy grail of any industry (watches, cars, guns, etc) then send it. If not, research what you are getting for your money. Many many grand masters use a stock CZ or Glock (with an optic if in carry optics division) and are all in for around $1000. If you need the Stacatto for your division, then go for it. But like archery, in the end, it's the Indian and not the arrow (see shame thread for references). I'd rather have a $1000 set up and an extra $2500 to spend on ammo.

(Side note). General Dynamics and the U.S. Gov have put a massive strain on powder availability with the number one European supplier banning all powder exports to the U.S. add an election year to that (not being political here moderators) and it's time to go get what you need sooner than later for reloading or ammunition. Lake City gets priority over everyone due to current global conflicts and powder production cannot keep up with consumption. So tell the wife why you need to go stock up.

It seems to me that now is the time for semiauto enthusiasts to check out revolvers and leverguns and bolt actions. If ammo and powder and primers are tougher to find you might as well get some slower guns. Honey, I can't find any 9mm so I had to buy a really nice used Model 19, because it shoots both .357 and .38. You know that 9mm can only shoot 9mm. And .223 is like super expensive right now so obviously I needed that new Henry Golden Boy. It will be so much cheaper to feed these guns that, really, I'm investing in saving money. I'm bought these for us, and our future.

Don't tell Chuck Connors or Jerry Miculek that they're slower hahaha!!!

They don't count as they are clearly not human. Some advanced species. He shoots those revolvers because his trigger finger works faster than a semiauto can cycle. Amazing.

Have you seen Jerry's YouTube channel? He tumbles brass in a cement mixer and dries it in an old kitchen oven. Cleans and dries his dry tumbling media the same way. Granted, his family shoots too, so it's not just his brass, but still.... the volume that guy goes through is staggering.

Box of Static Sterling rope for $50

Don't know if anyone has seen this so I thought I'd share. "Mostly kernmantle static rope and could contain up to 400' "

That's really tempting. I'm leaning more towards 8mm rope and this is all 9mm+ but... i could sell a bunch of tethers on Marketplace and fund an 8mm rappelling setup....
