Sell me on an alternative climbing stick to my 30” Hawk Heliums

i went from 30 inch hawks to 24 inch beast sticks. somewhat maxes out your budget if you go that way, but i like them. if you're budget conscious, in my opinion i dont see a point to buying a set of sticks in the middle (like the novix doublesteps) because you can cut down the hawks as mentioned previously and be not THAT different in weight/performance for basically no money, so I'd save for a set of beast sticks or EWO (eastern woods outdoors) sticks and keep using the hawks full lenth or cut them down.

Be careful....don't let the tail wag the dog.

There are cut outs where the step holes go. Drill your new step hole in one of the areas where the cut outs are spaced furthest and so you have enough metal around the new hole. You'll see that the factory holes do that.

If you instead target a certain length, then where your holes land can put you right next to a cut out with a very small amount of metal supporting the step hole. It is too likely for a catastrophic failure if you hardly have any metal.

Several well known tutorials on this miss this point and it has been brought up here multiple times.

I found a suitably wide spot of metal, centered my step holes, and the cut the end off as appropriate.
You sir are to be commended for your caring enough to share this vital information. You have have almost certainly saved someone from a life changing or even ending injury.

I agree, cut down your Helium's like @raisins describes or get a set of minis and reverse the suction cups. Here's pics of my cut down Helium's and my mini's. They are the most compact double step sticks I've found. https://saddlehunter.com/community/...dle-hunting-backpack-thread.22868/post-553839

I've tried multiple types of aiders with sticks but in my opinion if you have double step sticks an knaider is the way to go, I just hook it over the step itself.

How long of a step are you running on the knaider?

What kind of height are you getting on the cut down heliums vs the minis with the knaider?

I agree. Fairly easy to do.

Thats a sweet setup! Do you or anybody out there know if you can put a EWO UP on a hawk stick?

what do you mean reverse the suction cups? How do you lawn and what does that do for you?

Knaider will be whatever the length of your lower leg is, the hook is located about my knee. I'm 6' tall and with the three cut down sticks I can get my feet at about 18' with some stretching and setting my ROS about 2' above top of last stick.

I can easily get my feet at 18-19' with the four minis.

I moved the suction cups to the belly of the sticks. It allows them to stack closer together but only two of them at a time . You can see it in the post I linked as well as how I stack them in my pack.
